The Family Planning Program has been a big success this first period of the school year, despite the pandemic.
After the lockdown caused by the pandemic, COVID 19 public junior and high school reinitiated classes online, and until now it continues like that. In October 2021 School system in Cabo Mexico started face-to-face education but as an option, not mandatory. All classes remained online as well.
Sahuaruaro Family Planning Program got access to public high schools' morning and afternoon classes. School are located in impoverished areas in Cabo Mexico and has as many as 3 or 4 groups per grade. Sexuality is part of the Highschool curriculum in Biology and Counseling classes and the Sarahuaro program fitted into their curriculum.
In two sessions junior and high school students learned about, Preventing Teen Pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Diseases thought by Sarahuaro psychologist Beatriz Gutierrez Bernal to students aged between 12 and 18 years old, boys and girls.
In total, we taught to 36 groups with approximately 45 students per class.
Also, the Family Planning parenting guide at the Sarahuaro Women Developing Center took place during this first semester of the school year 2021-2022, and to the community at the Area Health Center.
