Pilke Network Support, Capacity Building and Trainer Training
During the reporting period, activities focused on strengthening the Pilke network, supporting practitioners, and expanding capacity for the Pilke programme through training and structured peer-learning forums.
At the national level, the Blue Ribbon Association (Sininauhaliitto) organized Pilke network meetings approximately four times per year, typically in spring and autumn. These remote meetings bring together Pilke instructors, trainers, supervisors, and other professionals working with Pilke activities. The meetings serve as a platform to share updates on Pilke implementation, discuss current topics related to alcohol and substance use among older adults, and exchange experiences between practitioners. The meetings have proven highly popular and provide valuable opportunities for networking, peer learning, and the exchange of practical ideas and methods among professionals working in the field.
In addition to national meetings, local Pilke development forums were organized by regional coordinators. These forums provide peer support and reflective supervision spaces for Pilke instructors, their supervisors, and other members of the Pilke network. The forums enable practitioners to share experiences from their work, discuss challenges, and jointly reflect on good practices. Supervisors also use these meetings to align operational approaches and to strengthen the enabling conditions for instructors to carry out Pilke activities alongside their regular professional duties. The forums further support the local adaptation and development of Pilke activities according to regional needs, in collaboration with Sininauhaliitto and the broader Pilke network.
To further strengthen the sustainability and expansion of Pilke activities, a Pilke trainer training programme will be delivered in coming months. The training is free of charge and conducted online, with sessions on 20 March, 17 April, and 6 May 2026. The three-day training programme equips participants with the competencies required to organize and deliver Pilke instructor trainings within their respective regions and organisations. You can still join by registering by 15.3. 2026 through the link below.

The training is targeted at professionals working with older adults and substance use issues within regional wellbeing services. Prior familiarity with Pilke activities and previous experience in training or group facilitation are considered beneficial. The training includes preparatory, intermediate, and final assignments to support learning and practical application. Participants also receive access to a comprehensive materials package, enabling them to independently deliver Pilke instructor trainings and further expand the Pilke network.
Through these combined activities—national networking, regional development forums, and trainer capacity building—the Pilke programme continues to strengthen professional competence, peer support, and coordinated implementation of preventive substance use work among older adults across Finland.
Thank you for your support that helps aging population to choose life free from alcohol and other drugs!
