On 5 May, Carers' Day was celebrated in Finland. It is a day to remember relatives whose lives are affected by the substance abuse of a close person. A loved one's addiction can trigger a range of emotions: Anger, fear, shame, sadness, hope, despair, guilt, love and concern. All emotions are human, real and genuine, and it is acceptable and desirable to feel them.
Allowing emotions is the theme of Carers' Day 2023, celebrated for the fourth time this year. Substance abuse is always a burden on the lives of many people around them. It is estimated that there are at least one million relatives affected by it in Finland. Substance abuse, as well as mental health problems, is a common phenomenon in Finland.
During this week, information about support services for relatives was shared. People were also encouraged to contact a health facility or their peers, and telephone and chat helplines were set up. In addition, webinars for relatives were offered, providing information and tools for dealing with difficult emotions and challenging situations with people affected by addiction problems.
Thank you for everything you give. With your donation, we have the opportunity to support relatives and help them in difficult times. Thank you very much!
