Our Successful Eliminating Violence Campaign

By Gemma Marshall | Donor Relations Manager

Talking to the community
Talking to the community

Each year at the end of November and begining of December we run a 16 day campaign focussed on Eliminating Violence Against Women (EVAW). The campaign is part of the wider UN EVAW campaign and our focus is to engage the commnity in Siem Reap. We promote discussions on women and childrens rights. discussions on equality, parenting workshops - which support parents in finding non violent ways to discipline children, and peaceful community activities. At the same time we rn an online fundraising campaign in order to support our year long work on eliminating violence. A big thank you to all of you who have donated!

This year the campaign ran from 25th November to 10th December and in that time we: engaged the community in discussions around violence and seeking support; helpd counselling sessions for those in need; hosted a meditation afternoon for people to recenter, learn to be more mindfl and manage their emotions; held a football competition for all our local NGO partners to celebrate our solidarity and work together; hosted a tree planting day and a litter picking day to emphasise the importance of our environment and how we should look after each other and the world we live in; we closed the week with a session on mental health hosted by monks at Wat Damnak. We heard about the power of peace and learnt about mindfulness, and ended the day by offering 100 alms to the monks. Peace and love are essential to a future free from violence.  In addition, we ran an online fundraising campaign, hosted a wine and cheese fundraising evening at the Park Hyatt Siem Reap, entered a small team of fundraisers in the Angkor Wat Half Marathon and our fundraising reached around $6000 - with funds still coming in - for our work on eliminating violence and supporting women - thank you if you kindly donated!

Please enjoy the attached photos of our activities and if you would like to learn more about our work please watch our attached video.

With all best wishes for the festive season and a wonderful 2020!
