Dear Project Supporters,
Thanks to YOU, the project received $1,025 from 3 donors since our last report. Now, because of YOUR help, more bed net recipients will sleep better knowing they are protected against mosquito bites and malaria.
One of the beneficiaries, Adama, express her thanks...
Adama, states in this video: "I want to thank you for the bed net you provided. I can’t remember the last time I took my children to the hospital because of malaria. We are having good sleep and good rest. I want to thank you."
According to the UN News Centre, "In Africa alone – where some 90 per cent of all malaria-related deaths still occur – an estimated 69 per cent reduction in malaria mortality among children under the age of five over the past fifteen years has reportedly helped to improve overall child survival rates and has directly contributed to MDG4." ~ UN Millennium Development Goal target to reduce malaria burden achieved
The malaria-bed nets project has been of great help to the people of Wellington especially in the Mellon, Beccle, Philip, Magnus and Palmer Street communities.
These communities have a population of over 20,000 people. Since 2010, slightly over 3,000 people have benefitted from the distribution of bed nets to help fight malaria. Over 17,000 people are still waiting to receive their first distribution of bed nets.
There is a continued need for bed nets as more people migrate to and from these communities. In addition, the effectiveness of the chemical treatment given to the bed nets only has a lifespan of up to 3 years, and within that time the nets also undergo wear and tear.
Because of YOU, children who are most at risk are now able to sleep safe and sound. But, hundreds of families are still in need of bed nets in the Wellington community. Each family needs 2-3 nets per household. YOUR continued support will help us provide this life-preserving gift to them today!
Thanks so much for your support!
Best Wishes,
Develop Africa team
