Provide Protection Through an Education Program

HP Philippines and Microsoft recently collaborated to bring hope through technology to street educators and street children beneficiaries of Childhope Philippines. On April 13, 2023, the two tech giants joined hands to conduct an educational training on Microsoft Word and Powerpoint at the Asian Social Institute in Manila City.

The training was aimed at empowering the street educators and street children clients of Childhope Philippines by providing them with the necessary skills to use Microsoft 365 tools effectively. Over 12 street educators and 19 street children attended the training, which offered them a chance to improve their knowledge of using Microsoft Word and Powerpoint.

The training session focused on enhancing the participants' school projects, work presentations, or reports by utilizing Microsoft 365 tools. These essential skills will enable the street educators and street children to create more professional and visually appealing documents, which can significantly impact their future academic and career prospects.

The partnership between HP Philippines and Microsoft demonstrates their commitment to social responsibility by supporting Childhope Philippines' mission to uplift the lives of street children. Teaching street children about environmental education is an essential step towards creating a clean and healthy environment. Street children are often exposed to unsanitary and unhygienic environments, and their lack of education and resources on proper waste management practices exacerbates the problem. KalyEskwela’s Environmental Education sessions.

Through interactive KalyEskwela sessions,we play educational videos for street children to learn what the environment is and how we can look after it better. It also tackles about waste management practices such as reducing, reusing, and recycling, learn to keep their surroundings clean, dispose of waste properly and reduce their environmental footprint.

Our street educators also teaching street children about waste management that can help them become more responsible and environmentally conscious individuals. The main goal of it is to help them understand the consequences of their actions on the environment. By instilling these values, we also raise awareness about the importance of proper waste management practices and encourage a more sustainable way of living.

Involving street children in environmental initiatives can give them a sense of purpose and belonging, which can improve their self-esteem and well-being.

Through a corporate social responsibility initiated by private sectors and volunteers, benefits of involving street children in these initiatives and the ways in which they can be empowered to make a difference.

Thes initiatives such as tree planting, coastal clean up, and conservations workshops can help them feel more connected to their community and environment. By participating in these kinds of activities, they can learn about the importance of preserving nature and become advocates for environmental conservation.

1. Solid Waste Management Activity - During the celebration of #NationalHomeschoolDay in the Philippines on March 3, Teen HOP - Teen Homeschoolers Ph, Avida Towers Verte BGC, Homeschool Association of the Philippine Islands, in collaboration with Philippine Mountain Rangers and Wildlife Enforcers, organized an outreach activity where street children were selected to participate. The children were taught about proper waste disposal and segregation, while volunteers from the Philippine Mountain Rangers and Wildlife Enforcers provided information about plant cultivation.
2. Marine Life Conservation - Last March 5, street children took part in the celebration of Shark Conservation Week. The Baby Shark Interactive Storytelling Session was attended by 30 children aged 9-12 in Museo Pambata. The activity was a learning exercise for children to learn about Philippine sharks and current conservation efforts. "We organized the storytelling session and random dance play to engage a wider audience, especially children and youth, about the various threats to our marine life," said A. Oposa, Executive Director and Chief Mermaid of Save Philippine Seas.
3. Manila Bay Clean-Up – A group of 25 street children from Manila, aged 7 to 13 years old, joined forces with 30 volunteers from The Philippine Canoe Kayak Dragon Boat Federation (PCKDF) to clean the shorelines of Manila Bay. The team worked together to pick up all the scattered trash along the bay, resulting in the collection of more than 20 large garbage bags full of waste.
