Provide 300 poor families with quality education

At La Nazarena Human Development Center, a work of the Sisters of Mary of Schoenstatt, we carry out an agroecological production project aimed at ensuring access to healthy food, strengthening community ties, and promoting sustainable practices. This initiative is fully aligned with our integral mission of accompanying families by combining care for the land with human, social, and spiritual development.

The center’s agroecological garden continuously produces a wide variety of vegetables, including celery, Swiss chard, lettuce, beetroot, onion, squash, cauliflower, and cabbage. All crops are grown without the use of agrochemicals, respecting natural soil cycles and prioritizing techniques that preserve biodiversity and soil fertility.

In addition, the project includes fruit production, mainly citrus fruits, pears, apples, and quinces. These fruit trees complement the vegetable production and help diversify the diet of the people served by the center’s dining hall, providing essential vitamins and nutrients for a balanced and healthy diet.

A key component of the project is the active involvement of the families connected to the center. They participate directly in soil preparation, planting, irrigation, crop care, and harvesting. This shared work not only transfers agroecological knowledge but also strengthens a sense of belonging, community responsibility, and appreciation for collaborative effort.

Thanks to this collective commitment, the harvested food is used in La Nazarena’s dining hall, where nutritious meals are prepared for the children and families we support on a daily basis. In this way, agroecological production becomes a concrete tool for inclusion, health promotion, and the development of a solidarity-based economy, in line with the values promoted by GlobalGiving worldwide.

At La Nazarena, we continue to produce natural foods for socially vulnerable communities.

We began planting in early spring. Swiss chard, garlic, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, peas, beans, lettuce, cucumbers, radishes, and carrots, which thrive in cool temperatures and humidity, are already growing in our garden.

Leafy vegetables such as lettuce, chard, parsley, and spring onions are also growing in the greenhouse. There, thanks to the high temperature of the greenhouse, growth is faster and allows us to have more harvests.

The trees in our orchard, with fruits such as oranges, mandarins, lemons, plums, and quinces, are beginning to develop the first flowers that will give us a fruit harvest in the summer months.
