Children - fun / interaction activities
Dear CAPEC supporters,
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your amazing support to bring computers to our school and community. The computers are enabling a whole community to learn life-changing computer skills. They are also providing valuable opportunities to learn and grow.
Together with other schools in the district, the Mayor organized an ICT and spelling competition for children older than 10 years. I am delighted to report that the school did very well. Your support helped make this happen.
In May / June we are excitedly expecting the arrival of new computers and we look forward to sharing much more with you in the next report.
Merci for your support!

By Collette Bekaku | Project Leader
children at CAPEC school
To start off we would like to say a huge THANK YOU from all of Cameroon Association for the Protection and Education of the Child (CAPEC). We appreciate your mobilization and donations greatly. Without you our dreams of our School would not be possible.
The computer training is currently targeting children and youth who have finished their Certificate of Primary Education and those presently in our school. The December training class had 25 beneficiaries. The beneficiaries learnt the following computer skills:
1. Introduction to computer
2. Key boarding
3. Microsoft Word
4. Microsoft Excel
5. PowerPoint
6. Microsoft Access
7. Microsoft Windows
8. Microsoft Publisher
9. Internet and email
10. PageMaker.
In addition, they learnt how to use IT related skills including binding, photocopying, laminating and paper cutting. Many of were quick to learn and do practical’s which boost them to complete this packages for one month. The training will continue during holiday period when the schools are closed to complete their course.
To date, 50 beneficiaries are now computer literate. They can use computer to write their own personal stories and experiences. They can also write a letter. At least half who are in high school have opened up an email address and face book account.
Here’s a testimonial from a participant, June, a Class 6 Pupil: “I am very excited about learning computer. It’s fun and enjoyable. I am confident and look forward into learning more in the future especially when I join college”
Challenges Encountered: Most of the beneficiaries were coming late making them to miss some sessions. Also the power was a problem - when we lose power when we are proceeding with the training. Another key challenge is the insufficiency computers are not enough making difficulty in teaching especially during practical sessions.
Taking Our impact to The Next Level: We would love to expand this program in 2013 and your donation of $30 a month will help us do that. Your support is needed and important because it will help provide training for promising young children. Knowing that we can count on your $30 or more each month will provide ongoing progress. Your recurring donations will be a predictable stream of income, making it easier for us to plan financially.
Right now is a great time to sign up for a recurring donation as during the month of December, GlobalGiving is offering a 100% match on all initial recurring donations up to $100 per donor. Your recurring donation could also help us win a $500 bonus award! You have to sign up now in order for your donation to count during this campaign. Thanks for your support!
