Fighting COVID-19

Hi,

I am very thankful to present our sixteenth report of the project - Rehabilitate 250 disabled children in India via GlobalGiving.

The activities we have conducted is from January to April 2021. Covid-19 cases increased from April end and many parts of India are in lockdown now. As on 05/11/2021, 241230 people got infected with COVID-19 and 2797 of them succumbed to death in India.

Following are some of the activities we have done in the last quarter...

ASTHA CBR Kolhapur

A medical camp was conducted at Snehsadan Alte, Hatkanangale for the Children with Disabilities (CWDs) on 21 January 2021 like Cerebral Palsy, locomotor disabilities and other physical disabilities. 35 CWDs from 15 working villages such as Shiroli, Herle, Rukidi, Mangaon, Chokak, Mouje Vadgaon, Narande, Ingli, Sajani, Tilavani, Hatkanangale, Dudhgaon, Budhgaon Miraj and Sangli benefited from this medical checkup given by Dr. Rajiv Negandhi, Pediatric Orthopedic and Dr. Anil Jadhav, Neurosurgeon from Kolhapur. Through this project we could also help 14 poor CWDs to purchase medicines for January to March. Assistive devices were provided to 4 Children with Disabilities (CWDs) such as Knee ankle foot (KFO), tricycle, wheel chair and wheel walker from Shiroli, Rukidi and Tilavani villages to improve the quality of life of the CWDs in terms of mobility and performing their daily activities. The team also conducted parent’s awareness meeting and advocacy meeting with grampanchayat in 03 villages such as Ingali, Atigre and Nagaon. 87 PWDs & CWDs participated along with their parents.

We Ring the Bell Campaign was conducted for the inclusion of Children with Disabilities (CWDs) in the schools. A total of 149 CWDs, their parents, school teachers, principal, anganwadi workers and villagers participated in the campaign. School children appealed to the community that all children are welcome to school including Children with Disabilities (CWDs) especially focusing on the four ‘A’s - Accessibility, Acceptance, Availability and Adaptation. This campaign helped to improve the awarness of people about CWDs and their inclusion.

 NIVARA

 SMS could hand over one more house to Mr Rafik Pahalwan; a flood affected family with the support of Karunya Trust Mumbai in Ichalkaranji, Kolhapur on February 11, 2021. Rev Fr Joby Eapen the President of Sangli Mission Society blessed and inaugurated the house in the presence of Fr Thomas Chirayil the treasurer, Fr Tom Thomas the secretary, Fr Roshan Varghese the Director of the Department of Social & Development Action, Fr Shaji Thomas the Manager Alphonsa School Yadrav and well-wishers. 

SAKSHAM

33 new Self Help Groups (SHGs) have been formed in the last quarter in Sangli and Kolhapur districts through the Saksham project. Total of 266 women have newly joined in Self Help Groups (SHGs).Through the Saksham program 5 Self Help Groups (SHGs) started new business such as shoe shop, stationary shop, general grocery shop, saree shop, etc as income generating activity.  It helps them to improve their quality of living. 

  SWAVALAMBAN

  Sangli Mission Society inaugurated tailoring batches in 04 villages in the last quarter for 68 women. All the women will be certified a completion certificate after training for three months.

 Vihaan Care and Support Centre (CSC)

Vihan CSC Ichalkaranji arranged asupplementary food support program at Gadhinglaj ART center for 50 Children with HIV/AIDS (CLHIVs). The team also conducted Tuberculosis testing of 50 family members as part of the project. Vihaan CSC, Miraj distributed educational materials to sixneedy children.

 CHILDLINE 1098

Childline Kolhapur celebrated National Girl’s Day at different Places such as Vikramnagar, Makad Vasahat on 3 January 2021 and Ingavale Mala and Kuchkorvi Vasahat on 24th January 2021.  

Childline Kolhapur celebrated International Women’s Day at Samata Colony, Uchgaon, Kolhapur on 8th March 2021. On this occasion CL organized Self Defense Training for Girls and Women and 29 girls took part in the training. 

Childline Sangli conducted 03 open house programs for 120 children. Games and classes were conducted to impart the knowledge regarding their rights and Childline services.

RAILWAY CHILD LINE KOLHAPUR   Conducted blood donation camp at Marathi school in Varange village in Kolhapur district on 27th January 2021. A total of 58 People participated in the blood donation camp. The team also distributed sanitary napkin to 175 adolescent girls and provided 20 supplementary food kits to the malnourished Children with the collaboration of Inner wheel Club of Kolhapur.
