Hi,
I am very thankful to present our fourth report of the project - Rehabilitate 250 disabled children in India via GlobalGiving.
We have completed one year journeying with GlobalGiving and I am overwhelmed to say that you have made it possible!!! We have received $ 15251 from 115 donors and GlobalGiving raised $1356. We appreciate your love and compassion for the poor and marginalized.
I take this opportunity to thank each one of you because you all have been part of this beautiful and fruitful academic year. This quarter is marked with preparations, exams and results. Our students have successfully completed one more year in training. We have lot of reasons to smile because there are many success stories of improvement in every child.
Each school conducted parents’ meeting before sending the students for vacation and sensitized the parents to be aware of continuous training at home. Ok. This is about Institution Based Rehabilitation (IBR). Now let me tell you our work with the disabled in 38 villages through Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) program. I shall share some success stories…
Priyanka (name changed), a young beautiful girl affected by polio, was unable to walk and stand on her own. Priyanka had her schooling up to class IX when she lost her mother. She could not continue her education after her mother’s death. Left alone at home she had nobody to support her and bring her out to enjoy her wonderful world. But her life changed again for better when she was given a wheel chair. Now she moves around by her own. She smiles when she sits on the wheel chair and the joy could be seen on her face and in her eyes.
Suhel (name changed), now nine years old was born with disability. He could crawl using his hands and legs. His grant mother used to carry him to school but he was not accepted by his friends in the school. Our field staff found him lying on the floor helplessly and was selected for corrective surgery on his leg. Now he can stand, walk and run like his friends with the help of walker. He goes to school without being assisted and nobody teases him for being disabled. He feels proud.
Let me tell you a story of a woman who became empowered through our skill development program…
Samina (name changed) belongs to very poor family who struggled a lot to fulfill her basic needs. She took admission for fashion designing course and after four months of training she started stitching clothes for her family members and villagers. She became famous in the village with her skills. Grampanchayat appointed her as a trainer and she earns Rs. 9000/- per month. Currently minimum 50 women are taking training under her guidance. Her life has totally changed and she is happy and busy now.
I am happy to invite you for the opening of “Vocational Center for Disabled Youth in India” which I mentioned earlier on 20th June 2018.
We have one more recurring donor to help us. We thank you for remembering us and helping us with whatever you have. Your help is changing lives of many. We thank every one of you for being with us in this journey.
