Rehabilitate 250 disabled children in India

By Roshan Varghese | Project Leader

Hi...

It is my privilege to share our first report of our project - Rehabilitate 250 disabled children in India via GlobalGiving.

June 2017 accelerator was our first ever experience with GlobalGiving earning permanent membership in GlobalGiving community and GlobalGiving homepage time on Nov. 20, 2017. This has given us an access to funding, tools, training and various supports required. GlobalGiving has rated Sangli Mission Society as Superstar for its effectiveness and engagement.  With your valuable support we could raise $8001 till July 2017 and GlobalGiving has disbursed $7480.6 to Sangli Mission Society. All these happened only because of you!!!

We are using this money for the rehabilitation of intellectually disabled children in two schools – a. Jeevdan Residential School & Vocational Training Center for the Intellectually Disabled, Zarap, Sawanthwadi; there are 82 children out of which 70 are residing in the hostel. b. Anugraha Special School, Veral, Ratnagiri; there are 68 children. The children are given special education, Activities of Daily Living Skills (ADLS), therapies like speech therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and major portion of tuition fee is born by SMS. The accommodation, food expenses and medical expenses are again is part of the daily expenses for those children who are in hostels. We are very much happy that you have supported this cause and become part of this family.

“Pooja (name changed), a 10 year old girl child with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and moderate intellectual disability, was admitted to Jeevdan Special School on 17th June 2015. Child was not able to stand or walk independently. Her eye hand co-ordination and fine motor functioning was very poor that somebody had to feed her. After two years of physiotherapy, she is able to walk and run independently and eat food with own hands. She studies in pre-primary group”.“Sachin (name changed), a boy with Down Syndrome, was admitted to Jeevdan Special School on 20th June 2016. At present he studies in primary group. Child would not speak or mix with peer group. After a year of speech therapy and special education he communicates in meaningful sentences with much clarity and frequency. He speaks to everyone and mixes with peer group. He is interested in music and computer. Parents are overwhelmed by the progress of the child”.

Dear friend, we are continuing with the project Rehabilitate 250 disabled children in India evenafter the successful completion of June accelerator 2017 since there are many willing hearts to support this cause.
