Continuing Childrens Program support
By Sharon Coldren | President
Children's backpack for summer field trips
During this quarter we encouraged people to apply for small grants for childrens summer project funding. We anticipate announcing some future larger projects as the government begins to make some progress on removing or repairing hurricane damaged structures here on the East End of St. John.
Recently we purchased backpacks for a summer program for elementary school children. We are also assisted with support to the Dynamic Dancers group. Our larger organizational effort is in planning for clean water and infrastructure for Coral Bay.
We just added new staff and look forward to their contributions to our total work schedule.

Assessing Future in Coral Bay St. John
By Sharon Coldren | volunteer President and Executive Director
Coral Bay's historic Silver Cloud sails again
During this quarter there were no projects or activities funded through this Children's grant program. Although several important activities happened with other funding and through other programs. The Boys and Girls Club on St. John got officially funded (well!) and the paid employee leader is our volunteer Board Member responsible for many of our previous childrens' efforts. The children are receiving even more than we could give now through that program and some other larger all island programs that are being regularized.
A barrier that we face in Coral Bay is that we have even fewer public facilities than directly after the hurricanes of 2017, as several restaurants have closed that used to lend their facilities for public and children's events. Thus it has become harder to provide "one-time" fun events for children. Also, the planned preschool has not been able to complete its physical repairs and reopen even with our help.
Not covered by this project, but an important marker forward for us all, was the first sailing of Silver Cloud, an 1899 vessel moored in Coral Bay since 1989. She lost all her masts in the 2017 hurricanes, and finally -- with much community volunteer help -- is remasted and sailing again. Many children, families and individuals have enjoyed a daysail on her over the years - donated by the owner.
Coral Bay Community Council is undertaking its planning for our 2023 agenda and may open a new project or fundraising effort within GlobalGiving this year that can draw on a broader donor base.
Happy 2023 everyone!

Youth Summer Programs in 2022!
By Sharon Coldren | President
Coral Bay St. John
The Coral Bay Community Council was able to offer financial assistance to two small summer learning programs for children on St. John this year using the resources raised through the GlobalGiving Program and additional general funds raised through our dues and donations. Each needed a differnt kind of support which we were able to offer quickly when asked due to this standing program. Constrructions Supplies to add screen doors and new lighting was provided to the still hurricane ravaged facility used by the John's Folly Learning Institute and teaching supplies were purchased, as well as donated from our office stock.
Support for a teaching assistant was given to the 2nd Annual Outdoor Learning Summer Creative Arts & Literacy Workshop©, The creation of Carla M. Sewer. These volunteer led programs provided new experiences for young people on an island that is still suffering from a lack of community spaces and infrastructure due to the hurricanes of 2017.
As no one is able yet to propose and implement larger scale ideas, we have not proposed larger or additional GlobalGiving Campaigns, but are keeping this one open to continue to stimulate possbilities as we hope there will be some govenment action. Ideas are being actively considered.
We are very grateful for the support of GlobalGiving and donors in keeping this campaign to highlight children's needs as we rebuild.
