"Technology with Purpose" program continues to empower rural youth with essential digital skills

Thanks to your support, this year we have significantly expanded access to technology and STEM education for children and youth in rural Honduras!

Alejandra – From the Mountains to the Computer Lab

Alejandra, pictured in the above photo, is one of educate.'s scholarship students. She lives in the village of La Alegría, high in the mountains of Trinidad. After finishing sixth grade, she faced major challenges to continue her secondary education—like many young people in her community.

Thanks to the community library started by educate. in 2021, Alejandra was able to apply for (and win!) a scholarship to continue her education in 2024. She is now continuing as a scholarship student in 2025. She’s currently in 8th grade and is a proud participant in our STEM program, where she learns about using computers and gains confidence using technology through hands-on activities every week.

Recent Impact of the Program

The program is based at the Youth Center and takes place on a weekly basis. Recent highlights include:

  • 26 secondary school students actively participate in the Saturday technology program every week.
  • Workshops have been held on digital tools, computational thinking, and online collaboration—helping our youth learn about technology beyond the basics!
  • We’ve trained local youth mentors to lead weekly sessions with primary school children! These sessions now take place twice a week at our Youth Center.

Technology and Leadership
Our secondary students work in teams, learn through projects, and receive ongoing mentorship in a safe, creative, and inspiring space. Our technology program is also offered to primary school children, planting the seeds of logical thinking and digital skills from an early age. This program with younger students creates valuable leadership opportunities for our older youth! In one of the photos below, you can see our young scholar Marely leading a technology workshop with children in our computer lab. We're currently developing a foundational digital literacy curriculum tailored to the rural context that can help to strengthen these programs and leadership opportunities even further.

None of this would be possible without the support of donors like you. Thanks to you, young people like Alejandra and Marely—and many more—have the chance to build a future full of opportunity.

With gratitude,
The educate. team
