We Continue to Support Rohingya Refugees

By Kaelyn DiCocco | Development Intern

We are thankful for your support of this project. I am writing to share some updates from ActionAid’s emergency response for Rohingya refugees. We appreciate you taking time to learn and act in response to this crisis.

Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, one of Bangladesh’s most vulnerable districts, are relying entirely on humanitarian aid. The number of refugees in this district is currently over 980,000, including 483,395 children. The hostilities and inflation in Bangladesh have resulted in security and protection risks for more than 1.3 million displaced people. Due to this crisis, Rohingya refugees have been attempting to find refuge in Southeast Asia by travelling through water and land. In 2022, at least 348 people died or went missing while attempting this trip.

Since 2017, ActionAid has been managing 32 Rohingya camps out of the 33 in Cox’s Bazar District. Our efforts have included disaster risk reduction, communication with affected communities, camp coordination and management, water, sanitation, and hygiene assistance. So far, we have provided 90 emergency tents, 15,786 blankets, 40,000 food packages, and 5,250 dignity kits. To date, our humanitarian response has reached at least 326,996 people.

ActionAid continues to make sure that women and girls are protected through our 5,000 friendly spaces and multi-purpose women centers where we provide skill development and livelihood trainings to women and girls through a variety of practices including gardening to address family dietary needs, sewing, and mobile repair .

Now more than ever, your commitment to justice makes a difference. Thank you for your support and solidarity.
