Safe Birth Kits for TBAs to Prevent Maternal Death

By Joy Ojochogwu Etubi | Project Leader

Dear donors,

We are grateful to those who have contributed toward the “Safe Birth Kits for 80 TBAs” project. Your support has helped us secure some of the essential equipment needed for these kits. However, additional funds are still required to cover logistics, staff support, and the full rollout of this initiative. We appeal for more assistance so we can ensure all TBAs are fully equipped and ready to serve their communities.

In many rural villages, women give birth at home with the help of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) who often lack sterile instruments and basic supplies. This exposes mothers and newborns to infections, excessive bleeding, and other complications, many of which are preventable. Without proper tools and training, these deliveries carry high risks of maternal deaths.

This project will provide 80 TBAs with Safe Birth Kits, including gloves, antiseptics, cord clamps, sterile blades, and clean delivery sheets. Training will also be given to ensure the kits are used effectively and safely. These simple yet essential supplies will make home deliveries safer, reduce infections, and lower the risk of maternal deaths in these communities.

By equipping TBAs properly, we aim to improve trust between birth attendants and families, encourage safer childbirth practices, and create a model for low-cost maternal care in underserved areas. Your continued support will allow us to finalize the kits, reach every targeted TBA, and give mothers and babies the safer births they deserve.

Together, we can help prevent unnecessary maternal deaths and strengthen community health where it is most needed.

Warm regards,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
