Safe Haven for 100 special strays in Colombia

Dear donor and friend, it’s not only dogs or cats we rescue, sometimes Life challenges us and our capacity of compassion, will and flexibility to be present in the right moment for whoever might be needy to be saved. A month ago, we lived moments of extreme anguish. It was late and it started getting dark, when I perceived a flutter between the branches of a guayacán, high above, unattainable. I looked closely and saw a young pigeon hanging head down, like a bat, desperate to get loose. The ladders were not long enough and we began to sweat. What could we do? It was already getting dark, and the batteries of the flashlights were running low. So, my husband turned into Tarzan o Spiderman, climbed about 6 meters, cut half a tree with a machete, until finally, after about 90 eternal minutes, he managed to cut the branch, where the bird was tangled up, which fell gently on top of a post. We kept Batman overnight in a crate, he was so exhausted that he immediately fell asleep. Early at daybreak, I examined him and found a thread of at least 30 cm tied to one of his legs. We assume that the pigeon was looking for material to make a nest and got entangled in the tree. If we didn't find him, if we didn't rescue him, Tarzan, by risking his own life, the poor bird would have agonized all night. One more occasion to be more aware and not leave the rubbish in nature. Those who suffer the consequences of these inconsiderate acts are always the most vulnerable beings, the animals.

Dear donor and friend, there are some exciting news to share!!! As you probably know, we have been busy looking for alternatives to our actual shelter, because we were no longer welcome.  Finally, we found a canine nursery, a profesional foster place, for our shelter dogs! We’ll move in at the end of this week!!! Our new hosts are a couple of vets, passionate dog lovers and protectors, willing to change the living conditions of our dogs for better. Obviously we have to pay for it, and yes, the monthly fees are high, but we think it’s worth it. Our plan is to continue the search for a suitable plot of land, our own Safe Haven. We’ve already saved the third part of the purchase costs, but in the meantime, we have to slow down and be patient. Certainly, we never lose sight of our goal, there are too many furry reminders in the streets, waiting to be received with love and compassion. Trusting that our dogs are well taken care of, it will be easier for us to focus on Safe Haven and the associated projects. With all your support, we surely will succeed, in fact, we already have achieved a lot!!!
