Dear Donors,
The number of children affected by diphtheria in Kano continues to rise, while families are struggling to find timely care for sick children.
Recent reports show that Kano has recorded 39,536 suspected diphtheria cases, 32,633 confirmed cases and 1,747 deaths. All 44 local government areas of the state have been affected.
Behind these numbers are children fighting to breathe, parents rushing from one health facility to another, and families living with the fear that they may lose a child.
Hospitals and health facilities are already under pressure. When too many children need care at the same time, finding a bed, getting treatment quickly and reaching the right health worker can become difficult.
For a parent, there is nothing more frightening than watching a sick child become weaker while waiting for medical attention.
Diphtheria can cause severe sore throat, fever, swelling of the neck and breathing difficulties. Without timely treatment, the disease can become life-threatening.
Many children are also still missing routine vaccinations, leaving them exposed to a disease that can be prevented.
This is why our work matters.
Through this project, Clarion Times Foundation plans to support communities affected by the outbreak through vaccination support, community education, early identification of suspected cases, referral and access to treatment.
Our doctors, nurses and community health workers will work with families to help them recognise the warning signs and seek medical care early. We also plan to provide medicines and protective supplies for frontline health workers and educational materials for families.
A child who is identified early has a better chance of receiving treatment before the illness becomes severe.
A child who receives the right vaccination has protection against a disease that can take their life.
A parent who knows the warning signs can seek help before it is too late.
We cannot allow more children to die simply because they could not receive care in time.
We are asking you to stand with children and families in Kano during this outbreak.
Your donation can help us reach communities where families need information, vaccination support and access to care.
Please donate if you can, and share this project with your friends, family, colleagues, community groups and anyone who may be willing to help.
Every child deserves a chance to survive this outbreak.
Thank you for standing with Nigerian children and families.
