Hello Otter Supporters,
Unfortunately, we still have no breeding news from our otter breeding center. Our otters are healthy, nest together and show mating activity however no pups are produced. As you can imagine, this is frustrating for our team given the critically endangered status of river otters in Israel. However, our keepers continue to ensure that the otters receive good nutrition and excellent veterinary care in the hope that our efforts will eventually bear fruit.
Our zoological team will review matters after the summer to see whether there are any other measures that can be taken to assist the animals. So it goes with wildlife conservation work – ups and downs and long periods of waiting…thank you for your continued interest and support of this project. We are not giving up and we hope that neither will you.
Yours in hope,
Team Otter at the Jerusalem Zoo
