Scholarships Awarded

By Elizabeth Appleyard | Program Officer

Dear Friends,

This project has a two- fold purpose to support females at private secondary school and also to support some of these as they go onto university. In Dr. Yacoobi’s private secondary schools (2 in Herat and 2 in Kabul and one kindergarten) there are 2,137 students, 1,208 female. The scholarship recipients continue to do well in the private school learning environment. These children would not be able to attend this quality school without financial aid.

The second Herat school started as a branch out of the main school.  30 scholarships have just been awarded to female students at this second branch for the start of the new school year. This project provides additional funds to these students to make up their scholarships.  The school has a total student body of 217, 115 girls and 102 boys. All the students and their families are delighted to receive support for their studies. I am Mohebullah one of the students at Professor Sakena Yaccobi private school and I thank Professor Sakena Yaccobi and the school manager for providing us with such pure education. The school management has provided me and many other classmates with great educational opportunities as there have been great scholarships available while providing a high standard of education. The scholarship saved my life since now I can attend all the classes and learn the update to date lessons.”

This project also supports 6 women at Herat University who have CHI scholarships. The women are studying different degrees including, law, psychology, mining and geology, history, computers and management. In Kabul, at university there are 2 women with CHI scholarships.  One student had this to say, “My name is Fariba and I am studying English Literature.  I want to be a senior teacher of English language because most Afghan people are not familiar with English. I want teach English professionally. The scholarship given by AIL makes me happy because it is a great help to me.”

Thank you for your continued support for education in Afghanistan and for its young people as they pursue their goals in life.
