Expanding Impact Through School Partnerships

Over the past quarter, Striving For All has continued to expand its impact across Douala, Cameroon through school partnerships, student engagement, and career-focused learning initiatives. During a Cultural and Science Open House at Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) New Bell, the team reached more than 300 students, providing school materials and reinforcing the importance of education as a pathway to opportunity. This ongoing collaboration continues to build student confidence and motivation, particularly in communities facing economic challenges.

In February, Striving For All participated in Youth Week activities at Lycée Joss and GBHS New Bell, celebrating Cameroon’s National Youth Day. The team supported student competitions by awarding school supplies to top performers, recognizing academic effort and encouraging excellence. School leaders emphasized the importance of these partnerships in strengthening student confidence and creating supportive learning environments. As one school administrator shared, this kind of engagement reminds students that their hard work matters and that they are capable of building a better future.

At the Thrive Center, students also benefited from a career-focused development session led by Dr. Tiengoue Pulchérie, a pharmacist and business owner in Douala. She shared her personal journey and encouraged students to stay disciplined, focused, and committed to their education. During the session, students actively engaged in discussions about their goals and future careers. One student reflected that the experience helped them better understand how focus and consistent effort can shape their future.

These combined efforts show how your support is helping young people in Douala build confidence, stay engaged in their education, and take meaningful steps toward their future. By strengthening partnerships with schools and connecting students to real-world guidance, Striving For All continues to equip youth with the skills, mindset, and opportunities they need to succeed.

Strong Start to Our 2025-2026 Youth Empowerment Session

Thriving New Cohort

A New Session Begins

This October, the Thrive Center in Douala, Cameroon launched its new youth empowerment and digital skills session, welcoming more than 120 students into free technology and leadership programs. Learners are now participating in Girls in Tech, AI with Python, Data Analysis, Microsoft Office, Web Development, Career Launch, and Green Warriors, our environmental leadership course. Since its opening, the Thrive Center has trained more than 500 young people, helping them build skills that open doors to future academic and career opportunities.

Inspiring the Next Generation of Tech Girls

One of the highlights of the school year took place at Lycée Joss, one of our partnering and highly reputable public high schools in Douala. During the school’s opening assembly, a student who reached the global semi-finals of the Technovation Challenge proudly presented her certificate to her peers. Standing before her teachers and classmates, she shared how the program helped her gain confidence, improve her communication skills, and discover her passion for technology.

Her impact did not end there. Motivated by her experience, she created her own “tech girls” team at her school. She now meets with younger girls each week to help them explore coding, digital tools, and problem-solving skills. Her leadership is inspiring more students to participate in Girls in Tech this year, showing the powerful ripple effect created when even one girl is empowered.

Expanding Our School Partnership

Our long-term collaboration with Lycée Joss continues to grow. During our October 20 school visit, students engaged deeply with our team, and more than 70 registered for Thrive Center programs within two days. To support their learning, the school has requested co-branded student badges that allow these learners to access the school’s multimedia center for extra practice. Since 2024, more than 250 students from this school have benefited from Thrive Center training.

Introducing Internship Pathways

This year also marked the launch of our first internship program. Five top-performing students from the previous session were selected after completing interviews, giving them hands-on experience in digital literacy initiatives, workshop support, and community engagement. The next cohort of eligible interns will be chosen from the strongest performers in the current session. These opportunities help students apply classroom learning to real-life situations and build confidence in their professional abilities.

Empowering Students: Summer 2025 Milestones

Student Achievements

This summer at the Thrive Center in Douala, more than 150 students enrolled in our free Youth Development Program. We are proud to share that a little over 100 students successfully completed the session and earned certificates in technology, career readiness, and environmental sustainability. Two all-girls teams from our Girls in Tech program (in partnership with Technovation) reached the global semi-finals—an unprecedented milestone for Cameroon and a powerful signal of what’s possible for girls in STEM.

Building Digital Skills

Through our partnership with DataCamp Donates, students gained free access to the DataCamp online learning platform. Over the summer, they completed 48 courses with an 88% engagement rate. Popular courses included Python, AI, data visualization, SQL, and machine learning—skills that prepare them for future academic and career opportunities.

Internship Experience

Our Summer Internship Program brought together four outstanding interns—the top achievers from the winter session—across different subject areas. These interns supported our digital literacy initiatives, assisted with community outreach, and gained valuable leadership experience. For all of them, it was their first professional opportunity, helping them apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings.

A Story of Change: Mireille

Meet “Mireille” (name changed for privacy). When she first arrived at the Thrive Center, she was unsure about learning technology. She hesitated to register for our Girls in Tech program, but with encouragement from our team, she decided to take the leap.

In June, she received the news that her team had reached the global semi-finals—a first for girls in Cameroon. She received her certification during the summer and was excited to begin preparing for her project for the next Technovation competition. This recognition boosted her confidence and morale, motivating her to pursue her passion for technology with even greater determination.

Mireille shared, “I used to think technology wasn’t for me. Now I can see myself studying computer science.” Her journey reflects the courage and transformation that your support makes possible.
