Project Report | Aug 8, 2016
''Panza llena, corazon contento.''

By Inge Hernandez Beck | Project Leader

In Costa Rica we have many sayings. A typical one that everyone says after eating a meal is ‘’Panza llena, corazón contento.’’ which in English translates to ‘’Full belly, happy heart.’’ I decided to name our sixth report like this because thanks to your donations, you have contributed to our children’s full bellies and happy hearts!

With the disbursement we received this month from your donations, we are going to be able to feed 24 children for a whole month with 4 meals a day for 5 days a week!

The first five years of life are essential for a person’s physical, cognitive and socio-emotional development. A balanced and healthy nutrition is essential for a child’s development since it is a fundamental factor that ensures a child’s optimal growth and development. That is why at Fundación DEHVI we focus on giving the children the best nutrition and education out there.

Meal-time and snack-time are very special moments during the day for our boys and girls therefore we decided to interview a boy from our child center in Hatillo so he could tell us about his favorite food.

Teacher: ‘’Emanuel, what is your favorite food?’’

Emanuel: ‘’My favorite food is everything they do at the ‘Food Atelier’, I am crazy for the food because I love everything!’’

The ‘Food Atelier’ is where the cooking lady cooks and where the children eat. It is not called the cafeteria or the dining hall because it is much more than that. At the ‘Food Atelier’ the children share moments with their peers. The 3-5 year olds serve their own tables and food for their peers, where they learn about proportions and sharing. These children get to eat at the different kinds of food at the 'Food Atelier' that they are not able to eat their homes. That is why all the children, like Emanuel, love when it's breakfast-, snack-, and lunch-time at Fundación DEHVI's child centers!

Thank you for your support! Thank you for helping us bring food to all of our ‘Food Atelier’ in all of our child centers. Thank you for helping Emanuel and his friends have a full belly and a happy heart.

I would like to motivate you to tell your family and friends about Fundación DEHVI and what we do so more people can support us and transform more lives. I would also like to motivate you to begin a monthly donation via GlobalGiving to ensure a healthy development for hundreds of children in Costa Rica.
