Spring 2023

Diversity workshop #6 in Kumamoto
Diversity workshop #6 in Kumamoto

Dear supporters,

Spring is always an exciting time in Japan, as we have said goodbye to FY2022 and welcome new beginnings in FY2023. As always, thank you for your support and donations thus far.

March marked the end of project leader Caitlin's participation in the Phoenixi social incubation programme. During four months of living & learning together. the seven members of Cohort 7 learnt valuable skill in order to progress their social business ventures, with the hope of making a difference to society.

It was an invaluable experience, bringing seven fellows from vastly differing skill sets together in one free-thinking, supportive environment. The diversity of Cohort 7 members was crucial to gain important insights about abuse and bullying, allowing for fresh new perspectives which will only benefit aspects of this project.

We continued our workshop series in Kumamoto, adding a theme previously addressed in our Kyoto series, “Respecting other cultures”. We were lucky to have participants from a variety of cultural backgrounds, and through their enthusiastic participation, the children were able to learn many interesting aspects of other cultures, and recognize how important it is for us to respect one another despite any differences.

The most exciting update this quarter was the official launch of our system kimino micata  on April 1st. kimino micata  is an SOS commication support tool, which children can use to raise an SOS alarm. We truly hope that through the use of the kimino micata system, children will feel confident enough to raise their voices in regards to abuse, bullying, or other issues they may be facing.

Truly looking forward to expanding this project even more this year, and we apprecate your continued support!
