Stop Ebola Spread Through Child Safety Education

Nigeria's newly confirmed imported Ebola case highlights why children need access to accurate, age-appropriate public health education. Although health authorities are working to contain the infection, families and schools should use this moment to strengthen awareness without spreading panic or unverified information.

Children are curious and often hear conversations about disease outbreaks from adults, friends, and social media. Without reliable explanations, they may become confused about Ebola transmission, symptoms, and prevention.

Empower Future Initiative is working to address this knowledge gap through our Ebola Awareness and Prevention Project. We aim to provide child-friendly training that explains the importance of hand hygiene, avoiding contact with another person's blood or bodily fluids, reporting illness to a trusted adult, and following instructions from qualified healthcare professionals.

The project will also encourage teachers and caregivers to communicate health information calmly and responsibly. Children should understand that suspected Ebola cases require professional assessment and that people who are ill deserve care, respect, and protection from stigma.
