One teacher recounts stories of transformation that have taken place in students at her primary school since implementing The Virtues Project...The children's names have been changed to protect their identities.
“Ruby” lost her father and her grieving mother struggled to support her. Without guidance, Ruby fell into drug use and dropped out of school. Her mother moved back to her parents home and "Ruby" ended up in a juvenile detention center. Upon her release, her mother enrolled her at different primary school. I was transferred to the school a few months later where I introduced the practice of Virtues into the school’s curriculum. The message really connected with ''Ruby''. She joined the Virtues Club and never wanted to miss a session. During one of our sharing circles, she bravely told her story—a journey filled with hardship and resilience. Through the practice of virtues like determination, compassion, and responsibility, Ruby transformed her life. Today, she is not just thriving—she is the school president, leading with confidence and integrity.
“Jonas” spent much of his childhood on the streets. When he was brought back to school, he struggled at first, but through learning about virtues, he began to recognize his own potential. Now in grade eight, he is engaged in his studies and making remarkable progress.
These children, like so many others, have incredible talents. Through creative expression in drama and performance, they have found a way to share their journeys and inspire others. When I first introduced drama competitions, they knew exactly what they wanted to present—their own stories of transformation and how embracing virtues has shaped their lives. Their performances were deeply moving, aligning perfectly with this year’s competition theme.
St. Joseph's Eshirumba music and drama team won first place at the sub-county level and will advance to the county competition in June. This success is a testament to the kindness and dedication of our teachers, who embrace, support, and uplift every child, helping them rediscover their potential and build brighter futures.
Kudos to The Virtues Project for creating an environment where every child can heal, grow, and thrive.
With your generosity, we have been able to continue to provide students like ''Ruby and Jonas'' with school supplies and meals
