Champey Academy update for October 2017

During the August/September annual school holiday period, our student attendance numbers swelled as they do each year.

The average number of students attending classes at Champey jumped  sharply to  90 to  100 students each day.  Consequently, student  spaces, especially  those in the very popular  drawing and painting classes,   were often filled to capacity.  Students who arrived late for class found it diffult to secure  a place in the classroom.  Now, in early October, as the government primary and secondary schools have reopened, the average number of students at Champey Academy has dropped back to about  70 to 75 students  per day.

Other news

Our  recent arrangement with the Raffles Hotel in Phnom Penh, which  allows Champey Academy to display student art work every Friday night in the hotel’s main restaurant  is making real progress, and has resulted in the sale of more than 45 student drawings in September and early October. This is great news on many fronts!   The  proceeds from sales of student art work are  shared between the student artists, their teacher and Champey Academy itself. Champey's  most recent and current  exhibition of  student work, ink dot drawings, has been  particularly popular. The exhibition , located in a prestigious hotel,  combined with the sales themselves is a huge morale builder for our students and their teacher.

Your generous support of Champey Academy is what makes  all of this possible. It as been a long journey to reach this point and it is our great hope that we will be able to continue to build momentum for our student artists.

Thank you,

Barbara & Mark Rosasco
