STEM GIRLS EXCURSION 2022

By Jonathan kolo | Project leader

Our STEM GIRLS SHINE
Our STEM GIRLS SHINE
Timeout4Africa Education and Sports Foundation continues to expose our STEM girls to STEM experiences.  In August 2022, Mawo School STEM Girls group went on an excursion to Habees Water Bottling Company in Minna, Nigeria.
Habees is a table water bottling company, located in the Minna Metropolis, with a capacity of processing about 100,000 bottles of water per day. The STEM Girls saw the water purifying process comprising the use of sand filter, carbon filter, and resin to remove particles and carbon from untreated water. The girls were in awe of the size of water tanks used in this process.
While in the facility, the STEM Girls went to the blowing room where they saw prefab plastic put into a machine and blown into a mold in the shape of the bottle.  The process fascinated the STEM Girls and two of the girls were given the opportiunty to use the machine to produce 2 bottles. The girls said they will never forget the experince at the bottling company and they learned about the importance of the water purifying process.
The STEM Girls also visited the production room where the water is further purified using UV light to kill  bacteria. Additionally, the girls observed the water bottles being filled with water by the filler and they watched the label shrinker machine apply the labels onto the bottles.  Once this process was complete,  the water was ready to be packaged for distribution. The entire process is automated which further ignited the girls' love for STEM. Precious, one of the STEM girls on the trip stated, "It was an interesting and educative experience for me and other STEM girls. We saw for the first time ever, how  water we consume daily undergoes various purification processes to make it safe for drinking and keep us healthy."
At the end of the excursion, the girls took group photographs with staff of the company expressing thanks for having them and gain such experience. The girls subsequently had lunch and returned to school.
Thank you very much for your donations. Without your suport, these types of experienes are not possible. Please continue to support us with donations during the year at www.Timeout4Africa.com.
