Dear friends,
This letter comes to you at a very difficult time… 10 provinces in Türkiye were hit by 2 earthquakes and many other aftershocks on the 6th of February, leaving thousands dead, injured, homeless... 13 million people were affected by the disaster and local and national NGOs organized quickly to start response operations. We, as KEDV had been working in the area with our grassroots women-led organizations and cooperatives and we will continue working with them and other national and international partners to make sure all survivors of the disaster reach the support they need while rebuilding their lives.
Since our last report in October 2022, we were able to raise 6150 USD to give micro loans to 45 women entrepreneurs. The businesses that are supported are either homebased or are shops and include selling cosmetics and cleaning products, producing and selling curtains, producing decorative home items, producing knitted products, producing ready-to-cook food or cooked food, running a café, shoe repair shop, weaving, producing and selling cologne water, hairdressing, and producing pasta and sauce. The women were able to buy products to sell and materials for their production activities with the help of the loans.
We are now closer to our target of USD70,000 to be able to support 200 low income women entrepreneurs, but we still have a way to reach it. The need is even more as the poverty is expanding in line with the increase of the prices and decrease of the purchasing power. We would be grateful if you could continue to spread the word and share the project link in your networks.
Warm regards…
