Dear Friends

We had a splendid Christmas and we wish you all a Very Happy 2025. The children have had a long holiday of two months, the boys were in the farm and some learned some driving skills. Driving is one of the best skills with ready employment. Girls, concentrated on tailoring , hair dressing and cooking skills. Finally the school has resumed for the year 2025. Please pray for peace throughout the year . I am sorry this letter is so late. I want to focus on education and start with GLS. The Primary Leaving exam results are out. There were 13 in the leaving class, P7. Despite the challenges of the attack on the project leader, primary seven continued learning and successfully did their exams . Their results have been released and 3 passed in grade 1, 5 in grade 2, 4 in third grade and 1 failed. This is an excellent performance so thank-you for making this happen . (We are trying to become an official exam center for UNEB but they require individual chairs and tables: a big expense). We also continue do the final touches to our building, completing ceilings , wiring and guttering to capture rain water to stop it spoiling our small ground in-front of the school building. Some staff have been with us for years like Justus Abitegeka. Julius Busobozi , our first Head, and Lusolo James on the board have felt a calling to a different place and we have to say “thank you” and “bye” to them. We welcome new members; Judith Atugonza , Joan Recheal and Joab Kalyegira. GLS is being prepared for the term start by Muhammad. We are small in numbers at GLS and so we are combining forms. There have been issues in raising students numbers due to the past attacks. We have managed to recruit 70 new students. (Some 12 years ,ago I mentioned about the Tanzania vulnerable girl who we educated to primary seven and successfully passed her p7 exams in 2020 at GLS . We sent her back home after this milestone. Her family had moved into the area. Mother was killed by the husband, the community then killed the husband and the original area is not known. We want to help but how? The s.4. class, post Primary, (you will remember these are self-study students who we could not afford the large schools fees), did their exams. You helped in so many ways: individuals paid for their registration fees, taught them online especially maths and physics from the UK and USA. Our students took their exams in a different school with an examination center. We eagerly await their results which are expected February 14 . These 13 students hope to Join A Level (Advanced level ) this year but what about their school fees ? (There are 25 in post primary education . Should you be interested to sponsor any of them , you are very much welcome . Last year 6 students were sponsored at “proper” schools; Tracey completed A levels and Olivious S4, Elisha and Patience will be in S4, Isaac and Rodrine in S3. Thank you yet again that you have enabled these children to be loved, fed, housed and educated. We long to do even more but are grateful and thrilled to have done so much.

Dear Friends,

My apology for long silence . There has been achievements as well as issues but all work for Good to those who trust in Him . I would like to focus this letter on GLS, our School. Term one started on February 5 with very low turn up. This was a big concern and we made a survey about it and most parents reported about the security of their kids following the murdered security guard and our teacher beaten into comma . We learnt that they decided to be patient to the end of the year 2023 before they change their kids’ schools.

Only 161 students reported in the term one with very poor fees payments which is serious. We hope children will report back in the second term as there was no issues again. We have today finished term one and we hope to be off for one month. Of course GLH runs through the year . Both primary school leavers, P7, and secondary four did their exams last year 2023. 15 sat these P7 exams, 7 passed in grade one and 8 in grade two. The secondary four had only two students who all excelled in Division two. Originally we were set to stop at primary seven but then saw the continuous need for support to Vocational studies as well secondary studies . 4 girls Brendah, Fortunate and others have graduated from P7 to hair dressing and tailoring and they can happily do some work amidst challenges of age. ( Fortunate went to a Tailoring Job recently and she was refused because she is still young at 14) so she has opted to come Join our self study secondary classes. (One of the guardians called me suggesting that I send her to Saudi Arabia for house work: the advertised monthly salary is attractive but I didn’t welcome the suggestion from my experience of what happens to ex- students). 3 other girls, Irene , Allen and Fausta made a decision to start their small business and recently they were encouraged with a donation of Au$ 100 each . It was a big miracle as they Increased on their business stock . 3 girls are thinking of what next but of course the Lord will open their ways. God’s time is the best time . Many like Ritah are in the field working, earning monthly ,sustaining their families /dreams. The numbers of those finishing secondary 4 is increasing - This year 2024 . We have 12 GLH secondary candidates and around 7 GLH primary . We are in the process of registering them for UNEB exams. (Praise the Lord their registrations fees has been met by a one-off gift) . We call our program, secondary self study program but in actual sense we have seriously come up to teach them. I love teaching them maths and physics. Several teachers are coming in to volunteer on almost a daily basis due to my contacts in the field of Education . The sad note of the year 2024 start was the loss of my dear mother and also our GLH pastor. There have been several sickness among the girls, 8 girls were admitted on a single day and stayed in the hospital for days. Honestly speaking I was hit hard, it was real wave and a midst all those issues some other issues came in from one of my teacher in college. My faith in the Lord Jesus was a very real support. A big thank you for your comfort and support in this loss of very special people in my life. Praise and massive thanks for … 5 triple beds with some mattresses , a donation from the UK friends …Kitchen building/ renovation ….UNEB students registration fees paid for 18 students under our care …. Good times with our volunteers and visitors… God’s protection to the children …. Term one success so far …. The onboard visitor explained the water situation at GLH to the UK visitors … We have encouraged both the children and their guardians on one to one talk …..

Prayers requests …. Toilet building /renovation work(ongoing) … Registration process to go smoothly ….School fees payments to increase ... … Protection for children and staff .. Water needs at GLH to be settled, some options were discussed and pending approval
