Continue Surviving
The 5.9 magnitude earthquake which happened around a year ago, led to wide-scale destruction in Paktika province which resulted in over 1,000 deaths and nearly 3,000 injuries. The dramatic situation which people of the Paktika faced returned a huge attention of the global humanitarians towards this province, which previously was not well presented.
The Paktika province bordering Pakistan has been a location where many people have not seen development and attention. The devastating earthquake channeled many supporters to visit the province and start providing life-saving services.
The people of this province, mainly those who reside on the border, had never seen women doctors, and neither had the schools for girls where education would have enabled the flow of development.
Thousands of people including pregnant women, adolescent girls and young people were exposed to further harm due to lack of necessary infrastructure. Many humanitarian actors responded swiftly and scaled-up their involvements to address the immediate needs. However, this province further requires infrastructure to respond to the actual needs. Pregnant women remain in need of lifesaving services for safe delivery; hence, AfD will be putting together a training for local midwives who could support the safe delivery of children and address the maternal and child health needs. AfD is partnering with UNFPA to implement further projects related to health care and survival of women, adolescent girls and children.
Furthermore, the male members of these provinces do not have a stable income and mainly rely on day to day activities that they could do on the other side of the border, to ensure they could help their families. Since the economy is not stable many of these people will be suffering during the winter months. AfD is running a fundraising campaign to provide winterization support in the upcoming winter 2023-2024. At the moment we require to raise 30,000USD in order to provide immediate survival winterization kits to over 500 families in need. Please continue your support so that we could reach to our beneficiaries in the hardest times of the year.
Stay with us and support AfD to keep its engagement with the populations in need.
