This report covers recent activities implemented under the above-mentioned Project covering the month under review (August -November 2022). Activities were held in Montserrado, Margibi, Bong, and Bomi counties in Liberia. This report reflects on the following below:

ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE PERIOD UNDER REVIEW:

2.1 1^st Phase of Teacher Training Workshop

Learning Squared in partnership with Teaching Training Together (TTT-Liberia), launched a one-year professional learning certificate training program for school leaders and teachers in Liberia.  The first of three seminars commenced on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, and end on Friday, September,16,2022in Kakata, Margibi County, Liberia.  The program brought together fifteen teachers and three school leaders from across four schools (ROSODAN School System, St. Effa Elementary School, Minor Community School, and Agape International school in upper and lower Margibi County, Liberia. 

The main objectives of this Seminar were to emphasize a transformational style of leadership that would lead to greater collaboration, shared vision, and continuous learning among school leaders and teachers.  Becoming an effective teacher begins with an understanding that a teacher’s role is to move learners from their actual (current) ability to their potential ability through a process called the gradual release of responsibility.  Margaret Gallagher and David Pearson developed this theory. Key points discussed included the three-step method in the gradual release of responsibility: 1. Direct instruction (I Do) 2. Guided Practice (We do) 3. Independent Practice (You do). Further, discussed during the training were: How to plan for the school day using the three-step method?  What makes a good teacher? How do we support teachers in improving instruction? How can we improve the quality of learning?

The training also brought together other participants, including district and county education authorities for Margibi County. On his part, the Country Manager of Learning Squared welcomed the participants to the training and highlighted the significance of the training workshop, as schools around the country will soon open. He further stressed the need for more capacity development for teachers, and the workshop is just one of the means to support education in Liberia and the quality of learning.

2.2  3^rd Annual Back-To-School Book Ride Campaign 2022

Learning Squared Liberia launched the 3rd edition of its  Back-to-School Book Ride in Bomi County, Liberia. The campaign was implemented in four counties( Montserrado, Bomi, Margibi, and Bong). This program is an annual event that seeks to create access to a secure educational environment for children. Children will have books, pens, and learning materials they need to begin the school year. The program goal this year was to reach 5,000 students in communities and schools.

The intervention primarily aims to provide students on the edge of survival and families struggling to make ends meet with learning materials. These families do not have enough to buy notebooks, pens, pencils, and learning materials. The program is sponsored by partners of Learning Squared in the USA and Liberia. The total fund raised was 2,500.00 USD.

 Six schools in four counties benefited from the exercise. D. W. Institute Elementary School, Kingdom Builder Elementary, St.Eaffa School, Agape Elementary and Junior High school, and Minor Community School. Speaking on behalf of the schools. The Principal of Minor Community School, Mr.Moses Wolalou lauded the partnership of Learning Squared as 

a pathway to sustaining and improving learning outcomes. Two thousand five hundred copies of supplies and materials were distributed to schools for this year's program.

Thanks and appreciation to our supporters, donors, GlobalGiving, Local communities, and school for the level of commitment shown toward the successful implementation of the project. Learning Squared Liberia is open to working with all children of Liberia, Mostly the under privilege children in rural Liberia.

ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE PERIOD UNDER REVIEW:

Support teacher’s Training Program in Margibi County, Liberia

Learning Squared, in collaboration with Teaching Training Together (TTT), will officially launch its first teacher's training program with three partner schools in Margibi County, Liberia. This training will include thirty (30) school leaders, including classroom teachers, principals, school leaders, et. c; from three schools in Margibi County. The three schools identified to benefit from this training program will include ROSODAN, Minor Community School, and St. Effa Community School. Combined, these schools have over 600 students, and we have supported them since 2019. The training will take place between 14-16 September 2020 in Kakata, Margibi. The training goal is to provide teachers with additional knowledge on classroom management, including lesson planning and child protection during and after school hours.

Payment of second phase tuition in Margibi County

earning Squared commenced its second and final phase of tuition payment to ten students (six female, four male) at the ROSODAN school system in Lower Margibi County, Liberia. Beneficiaries are between 6 and 17  and in 3rd  to 6th-grade classes. The payment represents the total tuition payments for this academic year 2021/2022. Our impact survey showed that students are improving the quality of learning and their studies. Learning Squared and its partners are committed to providing learning opportunities for rural Liberia's underserved population and children.

 School Monitoring Visit in Voinjama Lofa County

Our project team visited three schools in Lofa County, Liberia, during the reporting period. The visits aimed to monitor scholarship students' level of impact and progress during the academic year. Students' progress report cards, attendance sheets, and parental guidance in the community were among the issues discussed. The team later encouraged parents to support their children's education. Parents, local authorities, and teachers lauded the efforts of the organization. However, the visitation highlighted some areas for improvement, as the schools lack support and need institutional capacities to improve the outcome of learning. On behalf of the team, the Country Manager. Alvin Freeman appreciated the schools and communities' willingness to support the program.

Recommendation and Conclusion

Thanks, and appreciation to our supporters, donors, GlobalGiving, Local communities, and schools for the level of commitment shown towards the successful implementation of the Project. Learning Squared Liberia is open to working with all Liberia children, mostly the underprivileged children in rural Liberia
