Strengthening Village Health Teams for Early Detec
By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader
Strengthening Village Health Teams for Early Detection
Village Health Teams (VHTs) are at the heart of community-based health systems, and your support is helping strengthen their role in the Ebola response.
Before this intervention, some VHTs faced limitations in resources and training. With your contributions, we have:
- Supported training for community health volunteers
- Strengthened their ability to identify and report suspected cases
- Enhanced coordination between VHTs and health authorities
As a result, early detection at the community level has improved significantly. VHT members are now more confident in recognizing symptoms and guiding families on the next steps.
This early action is critical in preventing wider transmission and ensuring timely care.
Your support is empowering local health structures that communities trust, creating a stronger and more responsive frontline defense against Ebola.
These investments are not only helping now—they are building lasting capacity for future health challenges.

Engaging Religious Leaders to Promote Prevention
By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader
Engaging Religious Leaders to Promote Prevention
Religious leaders play a powerful role in shaping beliefs and behaviors within communities. With your support, we are working closely with faith leaders to promote accurate Ebola prevention messages and encourage safe practices.
Through these efforts, we have:
- Engaged religious leaders across multiple communities
- Provided them with accurate, easy-to-share health information
- Encouraged integration of prevention messages into sermons and gatherings
As a result, trusted voices are reinforcing key messages about hygiene, early reporting, and cooperation with health authorities.
This has helped reduce misinformation and build stronger community trust in the Ebola response. Many community members report that hearing these messages from religious leaders increases their confidence in taking preventive action.
Your support is amplifying trusted voices and helping ensure that accurate information reaches even the most hesitant audiences.
This collaboration is proving to be a powerful tool in strengthening prevention efforts and protecting lives.

Strengthening Emergency Transport and Referral Sys
By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader
Strengthening Emergency Transport and Referral Systems
As Ebola cases continue to be monitored in Uganda and neighboring DRC, safe and timely transportation of suspected cases remains critical to containment efforts. Because of your support, emergency referral systems are being strengthened to ensure that individuals with symptoms can reach treatment facilities quickly and safely.
Previously, delays in transportation increased the risk of exposure within communities. With your contributions, we have:
- Supported safe transport arrangements for suspected cases
- Improved coordination between communities and treatment units
- Strengthened communication between response teams and health facilities
As a result, suspected cases are being referred more quickly and managed in controlled environments, reducing the likelihood of further transmission.
These improvements are helping protect both patients and communities, while also increasing confidence in the healthcare system.
Your support is ensuring that no time is lost when responding to potential Ebola cases—turning critical moments into lifesaving action.
