Rescue Junction Supports Street Children in India

Namaste, 

Warm greetings from Rescue Junction, here in South Bihar.  

Everyone here hopes this report finds you all well. 

I would like to start by thanking all those that responded to our special appeal for Rescue Junction recently on Global Giving, and I would like to explain that it was not aimed at those wonderful supporters (of which there are quite a few) who donate regularly to help our work. I want to send a special shout out and thank you to them because you make so much work possible, and you are helping so many children in need of support and care. Thanks so much! 

Here at the Junction, we are busier than ever, and we are always looking at ways we can work with the community. 

I would like you see an excerpt from an email received from a visitor to the centre, 

 "Rescue Junction really is a statement in itself, Gaya is possibly now a safer environment for children because of the hard work your team put in at all hours around the clock to make sure they are safe. The children at the junction all seem so happy and I get the feeling that they now have something to strive for and you may have perhaps given them a new leash of life. To think a small child that has been abandoned or lost can suddenly be put into a safe shelter, with food and water along with education and most importantly FRIENDS! I will never forget the moment you first took us all there and we sat in the reception and you told us about all the horror stories, that was the moment it hit home, I remember thinking, I wish everybody I knew was here right now to see how lucky we are". May  I respectfully remind everyone that GlobalGiving has a special promotion on giving Tuesday December 3rd. On that day GlobalGiving will be adding funds to donations made so if you were thinking of donating that would be a great day to do so, or perhaps hold a small fund raising event , every donation no matter how small will help.

This is from an article in the local press...  

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and social activists on Thursday rescued six minors from traffickers who were taking the children on a train from Sasaram in Rohtas to Rajasthan for child labour.

The six children, four from Gaya in Bihar and two from Tilaiya in Jharkhand, were rescued from the general compartment of the train.

The arrested traffickers admitted that they were taking four children to a salt factory in Ajmer and two to a cashew processing unit in Jaipur, where the children would be kept in a room and forced to work for 10-12 hours a day for a salary of 8,000-10,000 per month. (Approximately $25 or £19 a month)

A case under relevant provisions of Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act and the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the arrested persons. While they are being interrogated, the children have been handed over to Child Helpline authorities. (Rescue Junction0
