Support a collective in the slum community of Vidigal, Rio de Janeiro, created to share resources, knowledge, and tools among several nonprofit projects and community leaders. The collaboration and communication between the change-makers and problem-solving agents on the Favela are unprecedented and allow the solution to come faster and more effectively to the most vulnerable families, especially in emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic.
Many people in Vidigal has still not been able to return to work or have no technical skills even to reintegrate into the job market in a different area. As the great part of the local population used to be self-employed and informal workers who used to deal with tourists on the beaches and streets of the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, many people could not yet get their jobs back. Every week we receive new people asking for help, but now the donations are scarcer.
By working together, we identify local needs, develop support strategies, manage budgets efficiently and take action more effectively. By creating partnerships, projects, and technologies that we can share among the partners, ensuring that donations and support reach those who need the most. Through this space of collaboration, it is been possible to help more and more vulnerable families in the Vidigal slum.
Our efforts help the favela survive the COVID crisis and eventually thrive shortly and beyond. We have been able to help more than 5,000 families thus far, but there are still many residents struggling who depend on our support. Although some things are normalizing, many people are still jobless and without basic resources. With your help, our work will continue to evolve and accompany the community's needs as we help them stabilize their lives.
