Students aged 12-16 lead real projects to reduce single-use plastic in their schools. Through the Unplastify Education Program, youth teams choose one disposable plastic item and design strategies to reduce or eliminate it. In 2023, the program reached 102 schools in 22 countries, and student-led actions have helped avoid over 1,018 tons of plastic. Your support funds the tools and mentorship that turn awareness into measurable impact.
Single-use plastic is flooding communities worldwide. An estimated 19 million tons enter the ocean each year, and only about 9% of plastic is recycled. Much of this waste comes from everyday disposable items. In schools across 22 countries, students aged 12-16 see plastic used daily but often lack structured programs that turn awareness into action. Without practical tools and mentorship, the plastic problem remains visible-but unchanged.
In 2024, a student team in Villa Ascasubi, Argentina, noticed how many plastic bags were used in local stores. Through Unplastify, they designed and implemented a strategy to replace them-helping avoid 170,000 plastic bags in one year. This project replicates that model: over three months, student teams identify one single-use plastic item in their school and implement concrete solutions to replace or eliminate it, preventing plastic waste before it is created.
Over time, young people who learn to question and reduce plastic in their daily lives grow into adults who make healthier choices for their families and neighborhoods. Less plastic means cleaner streets, safer food, and fewer toxins in the spaces where children grow. When one student changes habits, siblings, parents, and neighbors follow. This is how everyday decisions turn into healthier, more resilient communities.
