Penndco Students Love to Read

By Tetyana Varenychenko | Project Leader

Reading is Fun!
Reading is Fun!

We are happy to announce that our Literacy Master Map Program is continuing to thrive in the New Year. The children are doing great and every week they are excited to come to class.  In the past several months we have been reading books that focus on kindness, life skills, and friendship. We also read about different holidays and traditions. Students enjoyed reading books about winter.

During Thanksgiving we made colorful turkeys out of paper. Kiril was very excited to make projects during the holiday season. Kristina and Milana both have shown interest in books about friendship. Ivan have shown significant progress during the last few months. He is eager to learn and asks many questions. His English knowingly improved and he enjoys reading aloud in the classroom to the other children. Our youngest student Vlad is making progress and working very hard in class.

Students enjoyed making predictions about the Groundhog and learned interesting facts about the animal. By encouraging our students to wonder what might happen next and whether or not their prediction will come true, we boost reading comprehension and engagement.  As we progress with the program, we continue to work on independent reading time, read alouds, building vocabulary, writing stories, and playing games that are developed for literacy development. We thank our sponsors for helping us inspire young minds and develop their love for reading.
