Greetings from The Small World

We have been busy lately on the ground as covid restrictions are at ease now. The best part is schools are reopening now and finally our students will be going back to school.

We are painting our new building “Arhaus Children Home”. Slowly but surely piece by piece its coming together for all of our wonderful Childrens for whom its the only safe place to live and thrive.

Five of our hope girls finished their School Leaving Certificate exams and will be joining college from next academic session, a step closer to their dream.

Though world seems to get back to normal there is not much change in the lives of people in  remote villages of Solukhumbhu.

People are still struggling for job, income and basic needs everyday.

We recognize that in the face of increasing pressure from both the pandemic and the climate crisis, with the latter triggering weather conditions such as unusually heavy rains, an overly dry climate and/or overall changes in seasons, our greenhouse tunnel will become very important. Food systems across the globe should hopefully become more resilient, more inclusive and more oriented towards better health and nutrition for all particularly for women and girls as well as for all equity seeking groups.

Seeds of Hope provides sustainable assistance during crisis as well as helps to cultivate a sene of pride, since farmers are able to grow fresh, healthy food for their families and community. It also introduces economic empowerment because any excess vegetables can be sold for profit. This Covid relief work turned into a long term agricultural support program for hundreds of farmers today.

What was proved to be beneficial are the groups that we formed, each group consisting of 25 women, with two key leaders from each group. The leaders are liaisons between The Small World team and our experts. We have found that these women have very much enjoyed this arrangement because they can easily share their stories and problems and find solutions within their groups.

Through this, the women are empowered to find workable solutions, build relationships, establish trust and independence, increase self-esteem, self- reliance and are motivated to build a stronger community, which are all vital qualities- especially developing country like Nepal where women farmers is fundamental key to fight many challenges including food crisis.

We are forever grateful to our amazing supporters, despite everything that is happening in the world your kindness and support gives us hope and those hope turns into beautiful bright future of possibilities here in the ground.

Thank you very much.
