Fantastic news at the Terat Health Centre! We have a new battery!
Ever since the electric grid came to Terat, doctors and patients have still been struggling with power cuts, plunging them into darkness during night-time baby deliveries, and preventing important electrical equipment from working during the day and night. Almost 6 years ago, before the arrival of grid electricity, we installed a small solar home system for basic lighting and equipment needs, and this continued to support them for several years even after the arrival of the grid electricity, during the frequent power cuts.
However, in the past year, the lead acid batteries deteriorated significantly and the system has not been able to provide the necessary night-time lighting during a power-cut.
We have now successfuly built a new battery and installed it at the health centre, restoring them with a reliable source of back-up power.
However funds are still needed to upgrade the small solar array with more panels, to help the system support more of the health centre's core electrical needs, and save them money on grid electricity. It can currently only power very small loads and lights. We would appreciate any donations, big or small!
