GLOBAL GIVING REPORT: Sepali Madagascar workshop

(May 2023)

-        Acknoledgement :

On behalf of the Sepali Madagascar team members, I acknowledge all the donors for your kindly support to our project during the last three months.

Your supports allow the Sepali Madagascar to continue processing the silk and raffia that farmers produced specifically for this project.

During the last three months, We have three celebrations to get  profit from product marketing that was handled by our partner organization “ tananasilk” ( tananasilk.org).

-        The women’s day 2023

-        The mother’s day

-        The Dallas market event 2023

1-     The women’s day 2023:

The women’s day is one of the biggest holyday in Madagascar, especially in the community where the Sepali Madagascar project is based. The women in our communities have several tasks as well as responsibilities for their household during 364 days a year and the March 8th ( women’s day) is the among the few holydays for the women to meet and organize a happily party.

The women set up a group according to the social responsibility that they are part with, such us the village group, church group, sport group, family generation group and the company group.

The Sepali women artisan group is one of the group set up by the women initiative that have been working with Sepali Madagascar since 2009.

Each group must have their own uniform that they got from the monthly saving. The event stared with parade, and then followed by a lunch party

The men responsibility during the women’s day is to cook.

2-     The Mother’s day:

Mother’s day also is an event that many families in our community celebrate every year.

The mother will receive a little gift from their children and in exchange to the little gift, the mother will donate her specialty of cooking meals to the family.

As a gift to the mothers, Sepali Madagascar team has designed a little gift for mother that we called “sachet”. Those sachet are sold by our partner organization “tananasilk” and available online.

3-     The Dallas market event 2023:

This year, Sepali Madagascar will not participate to the Santa Fe show that happen every July. Sepali has attended to this show four times ( 2018 – 2022).

We wish to be approved to attend to this show in the future.

Now, Sepali Madagascar has been approved to participate in the Dallas market 2023 that will happen in June. The Dallas Market is a retail market so we will take this opportunity to meet with more company as well as markets that allow Sepali Madagascar to sell our products in the future.

For this first participation to the Dallas market, Sepali Madagascar will showcase our products that the team is used to make for several years but also some new creation products that we have developed recently.

4-     Our next step for the next three months:

The next step for Sepali Madagascar during the next three months is to continue the experiments about the dyeing process with plant. We target to find new species of dye plant that produce new color to our silk textile.

The second goals during the next three months is also to improve our weaving process in order to make new design textile through the combination of wild silk and raffia.

Please notice that both raffia and wild silk are produced by the Sepali farmers that live in the border tropical-forest of Makira protected area and both are harvested sustainably.
