The unique Biodiversity of Gujarat strongly reflects in the Avifauna of the state. Here, we can observe more than 510 species of local and migrated birds but various reasons like losing natural resources of food & shelter due to urbanization, pollution, industrialization are posing a great threat to their lives.
Sarus Cranes (tallest flying birds in the world) are one of the victims from the above-mentioned species and as per IUCN Red List they are extremely vulnerable. They often lose their lives from the threats like agricultural poisoning, excessive use of chemicals, electrocution, hunting and many more. Today we will share the story of ‘Grace’, an adult Sarus Crane who has been rescued from an agricultural land from ‘Sanand’, Gujarat. This Bird was completely grounded with symptoms of secondary poisoning due to the pesticides used for farming. It was completely dehydrated and severely weak when we received Grace. Our clinical team started the treatment without wasting a minute. It has been a week that Grace is under our medical supervision. We all are trying hard for this poor bird’s fast recovery.
Dear Friends, we need your prayers for Grace’s good health. We are extremely proud to have you with us. Together we will surely be able to save many more lives like Grace who are facing grave dangers due to human’s lack of knowledge, negligence, and selfishness.

TONY, THE ACID ATTACK SURVIVOR
By Ratiranjan Mahapatra | Program manager
![Amazing recovery]()
Amazing recovery
A disturbing case of animal cruelty emerged at our centre before a week. A volunteer said this puppy is lucky to be alive after an attack with acid. This is just a horrible incident, a horrible person that inflicted this damage to this young dog. After we received this beautiful dog, we named him Tony. He was Left by his owner on the road, probably his human owner was not very happy with this toy and wanted to replace him by abandoning this innocent pup on the road. But Tony was unaware of this side of humanity and used to bark all night out of fear and loneliness, hoping that his human friend will come back and save him. People from the neighbourhood decided that using acid is the best solution to force Tony into silence, so they poured Acid (chemical) all over his face and head to burn him to death.
Tony survived the incident with severe burns and huge damage to his head. The chemical was so strong that it melted Tony’s both the ears. We cannot even imagine the pain he went through.Tony was rescued by a die-hard animal lover with 3rd-degree acid burns.
This tiny little worrier fought hard, and we did the same too. He taught us how to never give up and live every little moment with utmost curiosity and faith. Jivdaya is extremely delighted to save lives like “Tony’ and also request all out there to raise their voice against animal cruelty.
Dear Friends, Jivdaya Charitable Trust, cannot thank you enough for your assistance. Your genuine support keeps us on our feet to attend to every wildlife in need and deliver our best. We know you have our back in this journey of saving many lives like ‘Tony.’
