"Darco" with minor bruises rescued and rehabliated

By Ratiranjan Mahapatra | Program manager

Monitor lizards are non-venomous and pose no threats to humans. As a result of continuous deforestation and expansion of human habitation, these largely misunderstood reptiles are often forced to wander out of their natural habitat in search for food and shelter and suffer unnecessarily in the hand of humans.

This is not a common sight to see a monitor lizard in our urban areas. Somehow a monitor lizard entered a locality and people there started panicking. Thankfully a group of kind-hearted people kept the lizard in captivity and immediately called us for assistance. Without even wasting a minute our rescuer Amit Rami rushed to the location and rescued the lizard. Upon receiving it in our shelter we named it 'Draco'. Thankfully Draco was not injured and had minor bruises. After a few days of observation and care, our clinical head and team decided to release it to its natural habitat.

Jivdaya Charitable Trust is requesting all to treat every living being with compassion and kindness. If you ever find any such species in your locality, do not panic and call any of your nearest Animal Welfare organizations for an immediate assistance.

Compassion, in which all ethics must take root, can only attain its full breadth and depth if it embraces all living creatures and does not limit itself to mankind.
