Dear Donors,
Thank you for supporting the U.S.-Nigeria Tele-Psychiatry Skill-Share Program. We sincerely appreciate your generosity and belief in the importance of expanding mental health care capacity across Nigeria.
Mental health services remain severely limited in many parts of the country. Millions of people living with mental health conditions struggle to access professional care due to a shortage of trained specialists, long travel distances, financial barriers, and widespread misconceptions about mental illness. Many healthcare workers want to provide better support but have limited access to specialized mental health training.
We are grateful for the donations received so far. However, the funds currently available are not sufficient to begin implementation of the project. Additional support is needed before training materials, virtual learning infrastructure, participant enrollment, mentorship activities, and program coordination can commence.
This project aims to connect Nigerian healthcare workers with experienced psychiatrists through a structured virtual learning program. Participants will receive practical training, case-based discussions, educational resources, and professional mentorship designed to strengthen their ability to identify, manage, and refer mental health conditions appropriately.
Building the capacity of frontline healthcare workers can help expand access to mental health support far beyond the limited number of specialist psychiatrists currently available. Trained participants can apply new knowledge within their workplaces and communities, helping more people receive appropriate care and guidance.
The growing demand for mental health services highlights the importance of strengthening workforce skills and expanding access to professional knowledge. This project seeks to contribute to that effort by creating opportunities for learning and collaboration between mental health professionals and healthcare workers.
We remain committed to launching this initiative and continue working toward the resources needed to begin the first training cohort. As progress is made, we look forward to sharing updates on participant enrollment, training activities, and program outcomes.
Thank you for helping improve access to mental health knowledge and support for communities that need it most.
Warm regards,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
