Uniting Communities, Tackle Global Issues

Dear Supporters,

The GVI Trust has been working hard with a number of projects worldwide all aiming towards reaching their end of year goals set out for 2017 and with the end of year in short sight we are in hope of a few great fundraisers to look out for! 

One exciting Fundraiser happening is for The Chang Mai Elephants in Thailand - On the 22nd of September, a few days from now, We support a 24 hour challenge living as a camp elephant for The GVI Charitable Trust in hope to raise funds towards supporting the elephants and making sure they stay happy in their forest.

Some highlights from The GVI Trust

• GVI Alumni member, Leigh-Anne Webster successfully completed her 10k run, helping raise money for The GVI Trust - All together Leigh-Anne raise a total of £200.
• The GVI Trust welcomes our new trustee's, Abbie Hine and Hiedi King. They met Ty in London for the first time a few week ago and are now busy working on an Interim Strategy to help develop the Trust alongside a Marketing Plan for the rest of 2017.
• We accepted our first non-GVI Scholar in August, Catherine Cushenan,who is studying on an MSc in Marine Conservation and will be going to join a 6-month program in Australia with Global Fin. Her work will enable her to collect research for the Thesis which will be published and hopefully allow her to progress to a Ph.D

Every little bit plays a role in what we do and we look forward to an exciting last few months of 2017 - so lets make this last sprint to the finish line count!

• Fundraising for our Thailand Elephants

Dear Supporters, 

We are now officially half way through 2017, so we thought that we'd take this opportunity to share with you some of the achievements from our projects all around the world. 

Mexico

In Mexico, we have been able to work on multiple projects in education and marine conservation. For the second year, we have provided dog therapy for special needs children at our partner organisation CEIA. We have also assisted Save The Children Staff to become Emergency First Responder Instructors. This means that from now on they can do their own training with new staff members! Our marine project has supported two locals at our partner organisation to become certified divers. 

Fiji

Our projects in Fiji have been very active this year, still rebuilding after the destruction caused by Cyclone Winston in February 2016. We have used your donations to rebuild a kindergarten (report coming soon!), purchase new rain tanks and fix up the rainwater harvesting infrastructure, replace school books and start kitchen gardens all around the village. 

India

Funded by donations from Stelly's High School, we were able to assist St Louis Primary School to upgrade their security and playground. The school has very limited resources and options to develop structured extracurricular activities and organise non-classroom based learning as been limited as a result. Although St Louis is a private school, they charge minimal school fees and most of the students’ families live in the middle-to-low-income Mundamveli area. 

We were able to assist them by building a security wall and bamboo playground, benefiting over 100 students every year. Read the full report.  

Nepal

In Nepal, we were able to use your donations to fund a sterilisation clinic run by our partner, Himalayan Animal Rescue Trust. 200 dogs were neutered over a 2 day period!

We have also been able to support a new partner, SASANE. They work on creating awareness on the issue of human trafficking as well as assisting victims of trafficking to get back on their feet by learning skills to generate an income. Funds have been contributed to support their school awareness programme that they are rolling out over the next few months.
