Dear Supporter,
The past few months have been very busy here at the GVI-Charitable Trust. Here are some of the highlights:
Nepal has been receivng a lot of our attention in the past few months since the series of devistating earthquakes earlier this year. As the monsoon season is in full force, the country continues to struggle to rebuild and our ongoing support is still needed. It is predicted that it will take 10 years for Nepal to fully recover. At present we are focusing on getting building materials to communities who completely lost their homes so that they can start building their homes again and get out of the temporary shelters.
In our last report we mentioned the building project in Santhom Slum in India. We are very pleased to report that we have now completed 12 houses and have funds to start another house soon. All of the houses have been built on a raised concrete block so that they won't be flooded during the monsoon season. There are also plans in place to start the construction of a playground, which will create a wonderful and safe place for the children to play.
Staying in Asia, one of the GVI staff member in Fiji, Owen Doel is walking Wales to raise money for the construction of a vocational training centre. Owen, who has been working in Fiji for 2 years, says ' GVI's Charitable Trust has allowed us to carry out large infrastructure projects, which would not be possible without fundraising. Now that I have seen what the CT can do for the communties that we work in, I would like to do something in return' You can follow Owen's jorney on Twitter @trekforfiji or via our website.
Across the world in South Africa, we have been raising money for dehoring rhinos, if you would like to read more about this or offer your support, have a look at our page right here on Global Giving. Our community project in Cape Town has recently completed a 'Mad Makeover' and upgraded an old store house into a brand new home for some of the children. It has provided a comfortable, cosy environment- something that every child deserves.
We thank you for your continued support of the GVI-Charitable Trust, without you we couldn't carry on the work that we do in the field.
Best Wishes,
The GVI-Charitable Trust
