Dear Donors,
We sincerely thank the donors who have supported the 15,000 Washable Sanitary Pads for Indigent Women project. Your generosity shows care for women and girls who face serious menstrual hygiene challenges in low-income communities. At this moment, however, the funds received are still too limited to begin the planned production and distribution of the pads.
In many rural parts of Nigeria, women and girls struggle to manage menstruation safely. Because sanitary products are expensive or difficult to find in remote areas, many rely on unsafe materials such as rags, paper, or even leaves. These alternatives often cause discomfort and infections and can create embarrassment and social stigma.
For school-age girls, the lack of proper menstrual supplies often leads to missed classes during their monthly cycle. Repeated absences can affect their learning and academic progress. Adult women face similar challenges that can interrupt daily activities, work, and participation in community life.
This project will produce and distribute 15,000 washable sanitary pads to women and girls in underserved communities. The pads are designed to be safe, reusable, and durable for up to two years. Local women will receive training to produce the pads using affordable materials, creating a small community-based production effort while reducing costs.
Once production begins, the pads will be distributed through community volunteers and outreach visits to rural areas where access to safe menstrual products is limited. Each recipient will also receive guidance on proper hygiene and care for the reusable pads.
Access to reliable menstrual products can help women and girls manage their periods with dignity and comfort. It also helps reduce infections and supports regular participation in school and work.
Although the project has received encouraging support, the current funding cannot yet cover the first stage of pad production. We continue to seek additional assistance so this program can begin serving the women and girls who urgently need it.
Sincerely,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
