Access to clean water continues to be a pressing need for many neighborhoods in Afghanistan. Since our last update, AAFF has completed two more wells which provide clean water to 700 Afghan families in Northern Afghanistan.
The well pictured above is located in a more remote region of Northern Afghanistan. The access to clean water is improving the health of 400 families. It is making it possible for these families to meet more of their daily water needs and it decreases the amount of time it takes to collect water, which provides more time for other chores, work, or free time.
The well pictured below is on a main road so it is being used not only by the 300 families in the neighborhood, but also by others who are traveling past. The neighborhood was so excited for their new well that they started using it before the handpump was installed. The picture below shows a girl filling her jugs from the pipe sticking out of the ground. Now the handpump is installed and it is able to be used properly.
The summer has been very hot and harsh. The water tables are low so access to water is challenging for many people. Traveling far in the heat is very difficult and the return journey with heavy jugs is even more challenging. You will notice from the photos that often the job of water collection is the responsibility of children in the families.
Each well that AAFF provides supports Afghan families to have a healthier life. AAFF plans to provide several more wells in Northern Afghanistan this year. Your partnership with us makes this possible. Thank you for building hope in Afghan communities with us!
