A New Season

By Banker White | Executive Director

Happy Spring to all our WeOwnTV supporters,

Hoping you are all enjoying the bounty of the new season. We are deep into our application period for this next round of Filmmaker Fellows. Applications are arriving and we have just begun been reading the project proposals. There are already some wonderful project and and we are getting very exciting about the potential for this new class of fellows. We have extend the deadline to this coming Wednesday, April 25th and our new fellows will be announced in early June.

We are also very lucky to have this amazing team of panelists assembled to choose our next WeOwnTV Filmmaker Fellows:

Chid Liberty - CEO and Co-founder, Liberty & Justice
Rebecca Lichtenfeld - Director, Social Impact Media
Kamal Sinclair - Director, New Frontier Lab Programs
Emma Christopher - Filmmaker, Senior Research Fellow, Monash University

This year we are expanding the fellowship to include a fourth country - Ghana. Here is some information on the fellowship:

The WeOwnTV Filmmaker Fellowship is a film fund and professional development program supporting the production of independent documentaries directed by West African filmmakers. This year we are accepting applications from filmmakers who are living and working in Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone and are also citizens of those countries. The program provides filmmakers with funding for their project, filmmaking (creative labs) labs, one-on-one mentoring, professional development workshops and networking opportunities.

CAMPAIGN MISSION: In early 2016, we launched the WeOwnTV Filmmaker Fellowship, a regional film fund and professional development program supporting the production of independent documentaries directed by Guinean, Sierra Leonean and Liberian filmmakers. The goal of the challenge is to help amplify and support important voices within the West African indigenous media sector. The fund is the first of its kind in the region, and through this fellowship, we hope to play a small part in supporting the political right to free speech by providing a forum for creative citizens to exercise this freedom.

We will report back on our selection for the next round of fellows in a coupe of months when the selections have been made. We will be selecting two new fellows to work with in addition to the two fellows who will be continuing on in our professional development program.

Thank you all again for your continued support!
Banker White and everyone at WeOwnTV
