Food/Winter Packs for families in Afghanistan

IBC continues to provide support to the region where humanitarian relief efforts have almost come to a halt.

In its latest report, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) revealed that 34 million Afghans are living in poverty, and due to the security crisis in the country, humanitarian relief efforts have rapidly declined. Particularly, the region has become even more disadvantaged as the Taliban regime has banned the employment of women personnel in civil society organizations.

The crisis and ongoing internal conflict that followed the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 have resulted in significant infrastructure problems and internal displacement.

Last week IBC completed the distribution of food supplies to 350 needy families in Kunduz, the province with the highest number of internally displaced persons in Afghanistan, in cooperation with the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Directorate, with the support of the Canadian relief organization IDRF.

The combination of the internal conflict, drought, and the freezing of Afghanistan's external financial resources has led to a severe humanitarian crisis in the country. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) specifically emphasized that the number of people living below the poverty line accounts for 85 percent of the country's population, and called for at least $4.6 billion in aid to be raised for Afghanistan in 2023.

The International Blue Crescent Foundation, along with the support of all its international donors, has been continuing its work in the region since the early days of the crisis and will continue to develop humanitarian aid projects for the people of Afghanistan in the coming days.

The situation in Afghanistan is hectic, Because of the Taliban's advance to the capital and all big cities and taking under control almost all country tens of thousands of people in fear of the new regime run to escape to neighboring countries. As the Taliban took control of all border crossing points these people are stranded on the roads and the bulk of them were around the cities in border areas. At the present moment,

IBC has access to Kunduz where around 20.000 displaced people are impacted by the current economic situation and are in a desperate position and looking for urgent humanitarian assistance. There are more than 81.000 IDPs looking for critical assistance in the country according to the very first data provided by the UN. The project aims the provision emergency food to those people stranded in those cities and countryside.

 In Kunduz province of Afghanistan, IBC distributed food materials to more than 600 families in cooperation with the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Presidency, Kunduz province, and to 100 families in total, 620 families in need received food parcels. The Procured food parcels include 1)15 kg basmati rice 2)10 kg red beans 3)5 lt edible oil 4)2 kg sugar 5)400 gr (10 packs) spaghetti 6)500 gr green tea 7)2 kg salt 8) 800gr Tomato paste 9) Shampoo 750ml 10) Dishwashing liquid 800ml 11) Hand washing liquid 500ml.
