Wollangarra Update

Hello Wollangarra Supporters,

We haven't given an update on the goings on at Wollangarra through GlobalGiving for some time so there is lots to report!

Wollangarra has said farewell to Dan, the Director since 2015, and of course his beautiful dog Tambo, who are venturing out in to post Wollangarra life side by side. What a fantastic effort Dan put in! Wollangarra courses and projects have been humming along and we are sad to see him go.

We are very excited to welcome Clare, Jay and their three-year-old son Elliot, who are the new directors of Wollangarra. They are settling in to the swing of Woll and are excited to get stuck in to school courses and meet all of the wider community within their new role. They are of course supported by the fantastic staff team who have been running great programs for young people and ensuring all of the cogs and wheels that keep the Wollangarra property turning are oiled and shiny!

There has also been a change over within the Wollangarra council. Ross Richards is now the chair of the council, with Josie MacLachlan as vice chair. A humongous thank-you to Brad Woods and Jodie Steel who have stepped down from the council after many years of great work and effort. Around the flat at Wollangarra things are looking very wintry, but the hint of spring is in the air and the wood-sheds are still full from the great effort put in by helpers at the Wood Chop Event. The staff are enjoying a well deserved break after a busy few months and gearing up for running more courses throughout the end of July and August, leading up to the Garden Party event on the 16th and 17th of September. It's always a lovely weekend of getting hands dirty and enjoying the spring weather so if you have the chance, head on up.

Wollangarra is currently raising funds for a new (second hand and solid) mini bus for transporting young people to and from Heyfield and Traralgon. Also, the Outdoor Kitchen will hopefully be finished off this Autumn (at long last!) Any donations towards the purchase of the vehicle or the finishing of the Outdoor Kitchen would be greatly appreciated!

Wollangarra Update

The new outdoor kitchen in action!

Hello Wollangarra Supporters,

it has been a while since the last Global Giving update and there is lots to report! The director and staff team have run many successful program during the first half of the year and inspired many young people from a wide range of backgrounds. There have also been lots of helpers coming up to work around the property and help with courses.

This weekend is the Wood-chop weekend on the property where a large group of Wollangarra community members will work hard to stock up the Wood sheds for the long winter ahead.

The projects occurring around Wollangarra are many and varied!

The Outdoor Kitchen now has a fully functioning stove (also producing hot water), a cool room for food storage and a great wash up area. All of this wouldn't have been possible without generous donations. Soon the kitchen will be finished, but first it needs to be fitted out to meet commercial kitchen standards.

Other projects include making a fully fox proof duck pen, buying/ sourcing more fruit trees and planting some more mini orchards around the property, organising revegetation work for the bottom flat paddock and coming up with a landscape management plan for the property, which will be implemented with the aim of teaching young people about sustainable land and waterway management. All of these things will take time and money, therefore a donation, small or large would be greatly appreciated.

Wollangarra Update

Hello everyone!

The year at Wollangarra is starting to wrap up! The final courses are being run and young people and supporters are gearing up to farewell the wonderful staff of 2015 and greet the 2016 crew! But that doesn't mean things are slowing down! Young people have been working hard, not to mention the staff who have been spending much needed time around the property making sure that all those second hand buildings are remaining solid! The garden is producing bountiful amounts of veg and the fruit is ripening on the trees. If you are free in January, come up for the Fruit bottling weekend where we turn all that delicious fruit and garden produce into delectable james and chutneys (see the Wollangarra website or Facebook page for more details).

As we reach the end of another year, it is esciting to look back and see all the good that has come out of Wollangarra over the past 12 months. Due to wonderful leadership by Dan Abikair, hard work and committment by the staff and loads of help from volunteers and young people Wollangarra is in a fantastic place, and is set to offer many more young people a brilliant and life changing experience next year.

Please consider donating to Wollangarra before the year is out. As you all know Wollangarra has always been, and will always be not for profit. What Wollangarra offers to young people is impossible to put a monotory label on though Wollangarra does need to be continually supported by the wider community to keep on offering such special experiences. Also estra funds are especially needed for a few building fixer-uppers and items for preparation for the fire season.
