The last few months have been, as ever, a busy period at Wollangarra. As winter is setting in, the lambs are being born and the wood shed is brimming, thanks to the efforts of all who came along to the 'Wood Chop' weekend.
Progress on the out-door kitchen has been steady and it is really coming together at last! The team of volunteers who came along to the Anzac day work party put in tonnes of effort, with the floor boards being layed and the brick surrounds for the new stove built. The wood fired stove - hand crafted in Bairnsdale is ready to be brought onto the property and placed in the new kitchen, something that will make it instantly homely! The question of how to get the thing over the river still remains but it will hopefully be a case of many hands making for light work! A big thank-you to those who have donated to Wollangarra in the last few months - the oven was an essential purchase and it is fantastic to have it ticked off the wish list.
Courses have been continuing to run smoothly with brilliant feed back from young people. Autumn hikes have been in and around Bryce's Gorge, Macalister Springs and the hills surrounding Wollangarra - all incredible places for young people to be introduced to.
There has been an impressive stream of helpers coming up to Wollangarra. There are always things to do, whether it be working in the garden, hleping with the outdoor kitchen or working with young people. The helpers have really boosted the amount of jobs being done and energy around Wollangarra in these last few months. If you have been up to help, thank -you! Wollangarra has always relied on the combined effort of many people and it is fantastic to see this culture thriving. If you are intersted in heading up to Wollangarra, whether for an afternoon, a night, a week, a month - there is bound to be something going on and you will be very welcome.
As you all know, Wollangarra also relies on monetary donations. Though we recycle, re-use, and bend things to fit whenever we can, there are certain things that simply have to be purchased! Any size donation will be extremely appreciated and you will easily be able to see the results of your donation upon your next visit - whether it be in the wooden sleepers your money helped to purchase or the heart felt thank-you left in the visitor book by a young person who a donation has allowed to come on a course.
Wollangarra is a wonderful and invigorating place to be - serving as a constant reminder that what is simple and honest is best; a lesson that staff, directors, volunteers and supporters are continuosly striving to keep alive and to pass on to the young people who visit - and from all reports we are succeeding! Thanks for reading this update, and remember, in a place like Wollangarra each person's contribution doesn't have to be big, rather the fact that we have so many intersted and supprotive friends means that we are all working together to give the energy and resources that keep it ticking along!
