March 2025 Update

By Constance Kane | Executive Director

Dear Friends of Women Changemakers for Education,

We owe you a very big THANK YOU for your generous support on Giving Tuesday on December 3, 2024. With your contributions and the GlobalGiving match, we raised a much needed $8,862.52 allowing us to continue supporting our amazing Fellows and Alums.

We highlight a few of the many accomplishments your donations have supported. Pictured above are the Cohort 3 Fellows at their first in person leadership training session, in Accra, Ghana January 3 – 5, 2025.  The Fellows gather three times during the two-year Fellowship, and these sessions offer both leadership training and a change to develop the bonds of ‘fellowship.’ Leadership sessions included: Strategies for Donor Engagement, How to Engage your Community, Creating your Theory of Change, Measuring Impact, Writing my Story and much more.

As for the bonds of fellowship, we note two things: several sessions were co-led by Cohort 2 Fellows who gave their time and talents pro-bono. Next, the feelings of camaraderie and bonding were strong, as evidenced by these words from Hiqmat.

“It was such a humbling experience to learn from you all, your lived experiences and it was even more amazing to listen and hear from each person's unique perspectives!!
Having you all here means that "WE WILL NEVER WALK ALONE.” Let's keep the spirit of sisterhood alive, and let's keep reminding ourselves that we are powerful and together we will use our collective power to LEAD, INSPIRE and TRANSFORM lives, communities, the continent, and our world.”

The Fellows and Alums are now busy preparing for International Women’s Day when they will offer community training and awareness around the 2025 theme “Accelerate Action.” Your donations support not only the small community grants but the training that went into developing winning ideas and proposals. Here is a sneak peek at some of their IWD programs…

Fellows Clemencia Laadi Atengkpieng and Suhuyini Karmil will host a one-day Speed Mentorship and Career Acceleration Forum to provide young women with direct access to role models, industry experts, and life-changing career advice. The Forum will connect 100 senior high school girls with accomplished female professionals for rapid mentorship sessions, career talks, and confidence-building exercises. This interactive and dynamic engagement will ensure participants gain actionable insights to drive their personal and professional growth.

Fellow Ama Frimpomaa Oware will offer “Empowering Girls to Accelerate Action: A Book and Movie session on “Kaya Girl”. This Ghanaian novel celebrates female empowerment, resilience, and the support networks needed to accelerate action for change. The session will bring together 20 girls living in Beposo in Ashanti region, who will engage in discussions, reflections, and creative activities inspired by the book and movie. According to Ama: ‘’By leveraging the power of storytelling, we aim to inspire, educate, and empower young women to become agents of change in their communities, accelerating action towards gender equality.”

Finally, Alumna Grace Amponsa will offer the “Accelerate Action: Parents and Girls STEM Discovery” program which will host an interactive STEM and career discovery session where parents and their daughters explore aspects of STEM through hands-on activities and panel discussions. The key goals are to expose girls to unique areas of STEM and, as importantly, to engage parents as key stakeholders by educating them on emerging careers and ways to support their daughters in STEM. The program targets 15 pairs of girls and their parents who have a love for science and math.

In closing, we hope these short vignettes have provided insights into the inspiring tenacity of our remarkable WC4E Fellows and Alumnae. And we hope you continue to feel proud to support them!

Kind regards,

The Women Changemakers for Education Team
